Remember Dianne Feinstein’s famous “let them eat cake” moment back in June, over lefty criticism of her health care position?
“I do not think this is helpful. It doesn’t move me one whit,” she said. “They are spending a lot of money on something that is not productive.”
Well, look who’s running to get aboard the train now that it might be leaving the station! Why, it’s Mrs I’m-At-The-Head-Of-This-Parade Herself!
“Private, for-profit insurance companies have no moral compass,” California’s senior senator said in a lengthy statement Friday, in which she called not just for a government-run public option for health care, but also for repealing insurers’ decades-old antitrust exemption.
Feinstein said she’s convinced a national public option will offer Americans high-quality coverage at a lower price. “I am concerned that without a public option, (cutting health costs) will be difficult to accomplish,” she said.
Welcome aboard the Public Option Train, Mrs Feinstein. Whatever changed your mind?
Protesters lined up outside her district offices in California, and she received more than 200,000 phone calls and e-mails.
Feinstein spokesman Gil Duran says his boss’ position was misunderstood. What worried the senator, he said, was whether the votes were there in the upper chamber to produce a bill.
Eh, right….

Everyone comes around eventually…
DID SHE GO TO CANADA, or take a crap, Their so much movement in Congress it’s hard to keep up with.
See, she wasn’t opposed to Public Option, she just didn’t think it had the votes. Including, maybe, hers, but that wasn’t what she was saying. Sounds excessively deferential to and imitative of Chairman Baucus, but perhaps no longer.
No, ir54, it’s just her patented dance to the head of the parade as soon as she sees the direction her colleagues are headed.
I thought the old bitch was to old to dance.
Teddy, thanks for this. I have been really concerned about her vote. For some reason she seems to have influence in the House of Lords and is chummy with HoJo, etc. She wants to lead the parade so she won’t have to clean up after the elephants at the end.
It’s amazing how far off – both morally and in gauging popularity – Democratic leaders were on such an important issue, but I’m very glad that they’re listening now.
Have you all seen the latest PCCC ad featuring an Obama supporter in Maine? They just broke $40,000 at ActBlue to run it 200 times in Maine.
The only thing that keeps Madame Feinstein from being completely implanted in the giant Republican anus is her pro-choice stance but beyond that she’s a Blue Dog through and through. Her husband makes millions (billions?) on military contracts. I quit voting for her when she snuggled up with Oren Hatch regarding the Flag Burning Amendment. I sent her an e-mail saying I was far more concerned about the destruction of our Constitution than a piece of cloth that was more than likely ‘made in China’. She replied that the flag meant a great deal to her…blah…blah…blah. OK, the original Stars and Stripes is a national treasure and sure, I’d send someone to jail for messing with it but come on! Sending someone to prison for burning a copy? It’s not like we don’t have a kazillion of them already and more waiting for shipment in some Chinese sweatshops!
So yes, she does tend to walk with a pronounced lean to the right.
Very cool! I wondered why the Mainers weren’t having a fit. Good to see some action.
“Private, for-profit insurance companies have no moral compass,” this out of the mouth of a woman whose family has profited from the immoral and illegal invasion of Iraq. Tough to hear this type of talk coming out of a womans mouth who “has blood dripping from her teeth” Borrowing Grayson’s line when he referring to Cheney’s efforts to undermine Obama recently.
Feinsteins war profiteering needs to be investigated
Thanks to everybody who showed up for the protest &/or called Feinstein’s office. And most of all, thanks to Jane Hamsher & Firedoglake, which has been absolutely instrumental in moving the public option. No matter how this turns out, you should all celebrate yourselves, because you’re the heroes.

Senator Feinstein’s Iraq Conflict
As a member of the Military Construction Appropriations subcommittee, Sen. Feinstein voted for appropriations worth billions to her husband’s firms

In the November 2006 election, the voters demanded congressional ethics reform. And so, the newly appointed chairman of the Senate Rules Committee, Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., is now duly in charge of regulating the ethical behavior of her colleagues. But for many years, Feinstein has been beset by her own ethical conflict of interest, say congressional ethics experts.
As chairperson and ranking member of the Military Construction Appropriations subcommittee (MILCON) from 2001 through the end of 2005, Feinstein supervised the appropriation of billions of dollars a year for specific military construction projects. Two defense contractors whose interests were largely controlled by her husband, financier Richard C. Blum, benefited from decisions made by Feinstein as leader of this powerful subcommittee.

I have attended numerous hearings where Feinstein is on that committee. She wears far too much bling. The lights hit her bling and they dazzle and distract. She wears her families wealth all over her body. It is quite disgusting.
Her vote for the 2002 war resolution, her vote for the Bush administration and their crimes are above the law Mukasey.
To think she is the head of the Senate Select committee on Intelligence in many ways making sure there will never be accountability in regard to false pre war intelligence etc is appalling.
Here’s the SFGate Linky.
I LOVE Matier & Ross!
As Rayne just reminded us all, linky, linky, linky!!!!!
*G*
Ummm we need to find somebody to primary against Feinstein!
I knew she would come around too, SF Liberals would make her pay if she didn’t
Snowe’s spokesperson might consider rehearsing that line.
Oh, bog off you old cow!
