The McCain camp is looking for reasons to blame anyone but themselves for the miserable failure of the senators campaign, their favorite whipping post?
ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, on a “demoralized” McCain campaign: “Palin is going to be the most vivid chapter of the McCain campaign’s post-mortem. …
Those loyal to McCain believe they have been unfairly blamed for over-handling Palin.
They say they did the best they could with what they got.” ***In convo with Playbook, a top McCain adviser one-ups the priceless “diva” description, calling her “a whack job"
They’re missing the point, McCain was taking a dive before they enlisted Palin, Palin gave him a boost, without her the campaign was heading straight down. On the other hand, they are probably lower overall because of Palin then they would have been had McCain made a more responsible choice. We will never know.

Billo on Letterman last nite apparently got the fresh memo. Billo said that Palin has been made to memorize her talking points, thus she is making mistakes. Billo said that when people can’t be themselves and say waht they want to say, that is when they make mistakes.
This is a crock of sh*t of course.
she has been made to memorize her “talking points”
this is because she is a moron who can’t answer questions, if she doesn’t have her talking points memorized, she just unloads a barage of words from the vocabulary folder in her head
Can’t believe you are making these statements when Obama has been parroting the exact same thing for the last two months. But you are right about the talking points to some degree. McCain is making the mistake of not unleashing her and letting her be herself. When she does this, she pretty much destroys the opposition. McCain is stuck on running this ‘gentleman’ style of campaign which is utterly stupid. I still don’t think McCain knows the fight he is up against with the Obama & the media stacked up against him. Unfortunately he will probably have some time to think about it after the election assuming he keeps his Senate seat.
I have never seen palin destroy any competition, I have seen her “deer in headlights” when she doesn’t have something prepared to say
obama answers questions when posed, they are not read from mulit colored index cards
palin is a moron and making sure she doesn’t demonstrate her lack in knowledge is the only thing saving mccain from being lower then he already is
“Billo said that when people can’t be themselves and say waht they want to say, that is when they make mistakes.” I’ve actually seen this in action. Politicians are typically better saying what they really think. The problem is Palin’s case is what she thinks is SCARY.
Doesn’the Pottery Barn motto apply to the McCain campaigni? ‘You broke it, you buy it.’ Don’t see how they can run away from their pick. But as Jane says, they are ‘cut and run.’
Can’t resist the closing: ‘They can run, but they can’t hide.’
Cindy can buy her little man another home if things don’t work out.
Whipping Post
My daddy he once told me
Hey, don’t you love you any man
Just take what they can give you
And give but what you can
And you can sing in the sunshine
We’ll laugh every day
We’ll sing in the sunshine
And I’ll be on my way
And when our year has ended
And I have gone away
I’ll often speak about you
And this is what I’ll say
You know we sang in the sunshine
We laughed every day
We sang in the sunshine
Then I went on my way
She can’t respond to questions and she can’t memorize and parrot talking points. When exactly was she “being Sarah?” Was it when she implied racism during the “Joe Mama” remark? Was it when she dressed Piper in a Flyers uniform to try and deflect the boos that came her way anyway? Was it when she ridiculed fruit fly research not knowing how essential it is in the research of autism and the California olive industry? Now even the mention of her consignment store’s name has left it with a legal cease-and-desist action for using the same name as an AIDS charity.
McCain can’t even get an attack going without Republics undercutting him
I hate to admit this but for once I agree with a Republican, she is a whackjob.
Where is the love
you said was mine all mine
till the end of time
was it just a line?
Where is the love?
McCain may need a Zappa song to get through this:
Frank Zappa – I ain’t got no heart
Ain’t got no heart
I ain’t got no heart to give away
I sit and laugh at fools in love
There ain’t no such thing as love
No angels singing up above today
Girl I don’t believe
Girl I don’t believe in what you say
You say your heart is only mine
I say to you, you must be blind
What makes you think that you’re so fine
That I would throw away
The groovy life 1 lead
‘Cause baby, what you’ve got, yeah
It sure ain’t what I need
Girl you’d better go
Girl you’d better go away
I think that life with you would be
Just not quite the thing for me
Why is it so hard to see my way?
Why should I be stuck with you
It’s just not what I want to do
Why should an embrace or two
Make me such a part of you
I ain’t got no heart to give away
Away
No no no no no no no
Ain’t got no heart
Ain’t got no heart
I ain’t got no heart to give away
“When people tell you who they are — believe them.”

I’ve seen her try to respond to messages on the fly, she first has the deer in headlights look, then she goes into her barrage of nonsensical vocabulary
When the Mccain camp saw how she handled a question that required some thought, they realized the women would not be an asset, that’s the time they made it clear, only staged interviews
Her barrage of nonsensical vocabulary is clearly a reflection of her skill at speaking in tongues.
Local scalywags make good..er very bad. The ‘Order’ rightwingnut org. has past roots in Republican Party?

I just realized this is on the front page whoever put this post on the front page, I am flabbergasted and flattered>
McCain had already bought into Teh Crazy. Selecting Palin was truly the best crazy they could have found.
That any are having buyers remorse is many years too late.
I agree. McCain and his advisers decided to pick Palin. It was also their decision not to vet her or consider the downsides of such a choice, especially with voters outside of the base. It’s a little late for them to be having buyer’s remorse.
When you’re down and out,
When you’re on the street,
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you.
Ill take your part.
When darkness comes
And Palins are all around,
Like a bridge to nowhere over troubled water
I will lay me down.
Like a bridge to nowhere over troubled water
I will lay me down.
Congratulations!!
So let me get this straight. The McCrazy campaign made Palin forget that she reads newspapers, and about supreme court cases she disagrees with? It really is getting silly now.
707!
there is an affliction that has been recognized since Sarah Palin made it known
it’s called Palinopathy and a person having an episode of the affliction is palinopathetic
The New Yorker on the establishment rightwingers’ early infatuation with Palin, and the selection “process”:
*blush*
now don’t let it go to your head!
Digg
here’s what’s bizarre;
Krystol is wrong about everything
McCain first shows he has not judgment by listening to Krystol in the first place
then he compounds this lack of judgment by going forward without any vetting what so ever
ohhh tayyy
yayyyy!!

What McCainiacs will never admit is that all Palin did was step on the accelerator. McCain was still in the cockpit, crashing his next plane.
McCain shoulda picked Huckabee. he’s not as scary as
Palin and he’s not stupid. he’d already proved that he handle himself in the primaries and he has a following.
McCain’s campaign staff are classic bumblers.
I agree with that dosido.
I wonder if there is a republican who actually would have helped the mccain ticket and made the race close
any ideas?
blame the sycamore tree:
“McCain was still in the cockpit, crashing his next plane.”
Perfect metaphor.
Richard Cohen wrote an uncharacteristically(for him) good column today on how Kristol first met Palin. The unnamed source is missing the larger point, though, all republicans are whack jobs.
this would have been better then palin but I think huckabee would have still been a liability, America already saw him as a theorcrat.
I can’t believe he would have been quite the liability as sarah but I think he, mitt, goulianni and thompson would have already been a liability simply from there exposure in the run up to nomination
so who would have been a productive choice?
She probably gave his masculinity some play until she was chosen, from that point forward she made it clear, “I am hands off”
then she got her husband on board and he is even scarier then she is, he was her cheney to the governorship, he was in charge as far as I can tell.
we would be getting todd not sarah as vp unless she takes the oportunity to dump him or put him in his place
THE REAL MCCAIN
you MUST watch that youtube
Good question. The Republics do need to expand their criteria beyond:
1. Claims to be Christian
2. Claims to be Conservative.
They also need to learn to actually examine the claims of their candidates well before the non-Fox media starts looking into them.
I think Huckabee would have been formidable for the Republics. Batshit fundie crazy, but a solid campaigner, telegenic, would have placated the religious right and complimented McCain’s national security cred.
yup;
forrest, here is tree, tree, this is forest
did you see how embarrased they were at the debate when asked if they believed in evolution?
man, they could not bring themselves to stare the theocrats in the face could they
Jon Stewart did a really funny bit about Palin as grifter. hitting on the old man, then shows up with the family to get even more money out of him.
The best thing that could happen to the Republics is for them to dump the theocrats as they rebuild their party.
yo perris, front page !!
I’m really wracking my brain…DiFi?
j/k
Unspoken: all the sane ones will not hitch their wagon to McCain.
YO, ELLIOT! *grin*
and upvote on reddit
or start a new party, it might be easier to build from the ground up and leave the republics to the theocrats
they probably already started this, most concervatives consider themselves “libertarians”
some democrats consider themselves “libertarians” also
bingo!
They do that, they lose their foot soldiers/volunteers/Get Out The Vote staff. The CorpCons have money but nowhere near the needed numbers.
Both sides, the TheoCons and The CorpCons, need and deserve each other.
Unfortunately and somewhat ironically, many vietnamese immigrants relate to McCain’s message and experience. They have suffered under Communist rule and are very afraid to repeat that experience. They believe McCain and will vote for him. I was shocked to hear this, but there it is. I heard it on our local news radio here in Northern California.
Sad, but makes sense. reminds me of Cuban refugees voting R in Florida because of anti Castro feelings, whatever sense that makes.
That’s a good point. I can only say that they were going for a twofer, a fundie for the base and a woman because they had sold themselves on the idea that they could woo away angry Clinton supporters.
The post-campaign tell-alls will destroy the myth of McCain the Honorable once and for all. He has a very military captain-runs-the-ship management style. It will come out that he approved all the sleaze (as he did in 2000- Bush and Rove were just sleazier).
The MSM already knows that he has had a recurrence of the melanoma (not uncommon with this cancer) and is being treated at NYU Medical Center in NY. Which would explain some of his “meetings” in NY and the holes in his schedule. Interesting that the press never asks about this, just as they never said anything about JFK’s womanizing.
But it all comes out. Just quicker these days thanks to the Internet, etc.
back then a reputation of womenizing was an asset not a liability
jane is at the mother ship
THANX everyone for making me feel important, I had a great time
too late for everyone to enjoy, on topic for this thread, empty wheel has a great post up with a new york times report, now mccain doesn’t even want to be around palin;
empty wheel’s discussion
I thought the Rep from Virginia, Eric Cantor, could have helped McCain. He was one of those Republic congressmen who opposed The Bailout before they voted for it. He’s the only Jewish Republic congress person, I believe. Assuming he’s not a total idiot, like Palin… maybe he helps in Virgina and Florida.
Doubt if he’d have become a laughing stock. There is no more damaging characterization in politics than……..laughingstock.
from your description, he would have won florida for mccain, that would have been huge right there
She looks like a domo-kun in that graphic.

Because he is a mean and petty man, maybe senile. She was his choice, he brought her out of no where, so to speak. He coesn’t have the maturity or decency to show human decency. Ask Cindy.
Sarah’s no whack-job. She is a humble Evangenital prayer warrior. Why, she even prayed so hard when she wanted a new house, that Todd (with no apparent carpentry skills) went and built them a beautiful large home with just a little help from a few friends… her miraculous prayer-warrior-built house.
She Be Crazy!!
