Good question. The Republics do need to expand their criteria beyond:

1. Claims to be Christian
2. Claims to be Conservative.

They also need to learn to actually examine the claims of their candidates well before the non-Fox media starts looking into them.

I think Huckabee would have been formidable for the Republics. Batshit fundie crazy, but a solid campaigner, telegenic, would have placated the religious right and complimented McCain’s national security cred.

I thought the Rep from Virginia, Eric Cantor, could have helped McCain. He was one of those Republic congressmen who opposed The Bailout before they voted for it.
