EVERYDAY, students are commanded to utter ""I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
And who knows on how many other occasions such is repeated.
But this is but one example of how the words are a baldfaced lie.
"Court rules victim of ‘extraordinary rendition’ can’t sue"
Here we are, supposedly the ‘leader’ of the world when it comes to ‘human rights’ and despite Canada saying Arar was terribly wronged, our courts put the Executive branch on an equivalent standing of a King.
so, again, I call bullshit when the words ‘home of the brave and land of the free’ are sung because those who would be free would NOT stand for being ruled by a King.

Amen! WE have been indoctrinated, and believe the words in those songs, what the Constitution says, and what we are told by our Government.
Not much of it is true, we have few rights left. We can’t depend on anything from our rights, our laws, or our Government.
Many so-called socialist Countries at least respect thier citizens. where ours looks at us as tax payers.
You lot are weird — or am I supposed to just post a lot of crap here like recipies instead of saying anything on topic?
Why would anyone think the US is a leader on human rights? The US is the number one country in the world for terrorism (I think Amnesty said more terrorism than the rest of the world put together). I would guess the US is the worst county on record for human rights. To take the most obvious example what other country has a habit of killing millions of people in different places around the world every few years?
From what I can see Americans including the posters here are a very authoritarian people who probably prefer a king to having political freedoms. A good example is the response to some of my diaries where the posters here have taken it upon themselves to attack political speech. This is how an authoritarian pack of sheep behave, not a free people.
Don’t you think that maybe forcing kids to line up and swear allegiance to the state and “God” is a very authoritarian activity to begin with? That would be a pretty big clue for me.
Yes you have. So what are you going to do about it? Oh I have an idea. Why don’t you attack anyone and anything that is different from you? “God” knows a bunch of people who’ve been indoctrinated shouldn’t have to hear any view but their own should they?
David, no one knowledgable thinks the U.S is the ‘leader’ except those -especially those that represent the government- who pronounce it as such.
As towards ‘being indoctrinated’, most here in FDL land know what the CMM is all about; it’s one reason why I keep posting this (for those who are newcomers or happen to ‘drop by’).
A disgusting decision. What foreign policy would be inhibited? Kidnapping, rendition flights, and torture, perhaps?

” The appeals court said in a majority opinion that it cannot let Arar use the courts to press his claims against the U.S. government without Congress enacting legislation that spells out exactly how a case as unusual as Arar’s claims can be brought and what potential remedy exists.
Otherwise, the court said, allowing the lawsuit to proceed would “offend the separation of powers and inhibit this country’s foreign policy.”
In a statement issued by the center, Arar said the ruling and other recent court decisions show that “the court system in the United States has become more or less a tool that the executive branch can easily manipulate through unfounded allegations and fear mongering.”
He called the ruling “a loss to all Americans and to the rule of law. ”

An update on Omar Khadr, the other Canadian victim of what passes for justice in America.
*********
“Classified photos show Toronto-born Omar Khadr lying buried and hurt in a trench during a firefight in Afghanistan that killed a U.S. commando. His lawyers say that proves he couldn’t have thrown the lethal grenade.
U.S. Special Forces shot Khadr twice in the back during his capture, and he was brought to the American-operated prison in Bagram, Afghanistan, in critical condition. During the three months before his transfer to Guantanamo, he was interrogated more than 40 times for up to eight hours a day. His chief interrogator, Joshua Claus, was later court-martialled in connection with the death of an Afghan taxi driver at Bagram. ”

thanks you, ubetcha … this is why I started wearing my black armband mid-May. The horrifying lack of accountability and justice. Obama should wear a scarlet A on his front for the “Accountability” he flagrantly avoids.
