Well folks our congress critters rolled over to the I lobby again. The vote on House Resolution 867 passed. No need to wonder why the American public have little to no faith in Congress members ability to make independent decisions on legislation based on reason and facts
This faulty legislation was introduced Oct 23, 2009. How often do we hear that things take time, that congress likes to be slow, deliberative and fact based. You can bet that our Reps have not read the UN Goldstone Report and it is likely that their aides have not read it either. So here we are not even two weeks since it was introduced and it has made it through the first step of passage
Please call your Reps and ask them if they read the report? Ask them what their objections to the report are? Ask them to put it in writing.
Also ask them to support Congressman Bairds efforts to bring Judge Goldstone to talk with them about his findings?
Yea: 344 (80%)
Nay: 36 (8%)
Present: 22 (5%)
Not Voting: 30 (7%)
Required: 2/3 of 402 votes (=268 votes)

House Resolution 867

Why do we even pretend to be a member of the UN. Our nation could care less about International treaties, UN findings and reports. What is the point? Why do we even pretend?
Baird on HR 867: ‘This is about whether it is right to restrict the movements and hopes of more than 1 million people every single day’

“What will it say about this Congress and our country if we so readily seek to block “any further consideration” of a human rights investigation produced by one of the most respected jurists in the world today, a man who led the investigations of abuses in South Africa, the former Yugoslavia, Rwanda and Kosovo, and worked to identify and prosecute Nazi war criminals as a member of the Panel of the Commission of Enquiry into the Activities of Nazism in Argentina?”
WHAT IT SAYS IS THAT THE U.S. CONGRESS COULD GIVE A RATS ASS ABOUT UN REPORTS FINDINGS AND INTERNATIONAL AGREEMENTS
Those who voted ‘nay’ deserve some thanks, I think. They are:

good point. And those who voted “yea” need to be challenged. Asked specifically why they must be specific…cite passages of the report.
Ask your Rep to bring Judge Goldstone to a forum on the Report.
Maybe Rep Kucinich will do that he voted “no”
In the video clip
Medea Benjaman “this resolution sends the worst possible message and gives the U.S. no moral authority in dealing with the middle east process”
The interviewer says that that Judge Goldstone wants to testify before congress to rebut Congress Berman’s Ros Lehtinen and Ackermans resolution
Colonel Wright chalenges congress members “read the report” She also goes on and ask them to visit the Gaza and shares that only 8 congress people have ever visited the Gaza while 150 have visited Israel but not just gone 30 miles further to visit the Gaza
Col Wright “collective punishment ” of Palestinians

Though I doubt that it’ll be any comfort to you, I again want to say that the Resolution was less a repudiation of the report and more of an attempt to block UN action.
Leen, my comment in the ‘news roundup’:
”
And David, this is BIG news as it shows exactly how the U.S. is being harmed (”That is, Israel says it can circumvent the President; it can circumvent the administration by going directly to Congress. And Netanyahu works the phones all the time with Congress. So, in a sense, it’s a kind of divide and rule.”) by Israel.
And if there is doubt regards what I say, see this.
AND note that the House refused to call Goldstone in to testify regards his report.
“”I think the UN report is unbalanced, and unfair, and inaccurate,” said Democratic House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer.” ;so if others want to tell Hoyer what they think of his ability to ‘think’(note he doesn’t say anything about reading the report), they can write him here
Emmanuel,Hoyer,Schumer,Leiberman and many others ought to be required to register as agents of a foreign power because that is exactly what they are when it comes to Israel.
we are lucky at FDL to have our very own agent of a foreign power who posts the latest hasbara talking points.
which, in the case of the Goldstone Report, are especially weak and underdeveloped.
I agree agents of a foreign power. The last person to try to demand that Israel’s lobbyist register under the Foreign Agents Registration Act was Senator Fulbright

“is being harmed (”That is, Israel says it can circumvent the President; it can circumvent the administration by going directly to Congress. And Netanyahu works the phones all the time with Congress. So, in a sense, it’s a kind of divide and rule.”) by Israel.”
Who said this? I think I heard a similar quote on Democracy Now today
Be sure to look at this clip. The Code Pink folks are doing the nation a great service
It is. Against the Palestinians.
And yes I have read it.
Right on target..’g’.
All I can say is that it’s a good thing that they don’t really represent us.
Yes, that’s where you heard it. It’s in the linky.
Every politician installed by AIPAC, is blackmailed by Israel. Every Single One.
got censorship?
Do you think this offer is one that they won’t dare refuse?
*******
“Those who pledge $1 million or more can share their personal stories through a full page portrait and testimonial. Donors who commit $100,000 or more are invited to publish their motivations “in their own words.” The book will be distributed during AIPAC’s Policy Conference March 21-23, 2010. Commitment Matters features the inspirational stories of AIPAC members whose endowment gifts will help ensure AIPAC has the resources needed to meet whatever challenges lie ahead for the U.S.-Israel relationship for years to come. “
Wow, just saw that my congresswoman, Yvette Clarke, voted nay. A very, very courageous stand for a representative from Brooklyn. I immediately picked up the phone and thanked her, emphasizing to her aide that I’m a son of Holocaust survivors, and that not all Jews are in lockstep on this.
Sigh. I like the idea of getting Goldstone to Congress, though.
No, you’re wrong. If anything this is more than a rejection of the Goldstone report, it is also an anything-goes endorsement of Israel’s ethnic-cleansing project (”support for the democratic, Jewish State of Israel” rejects the de facto multi-religious nature of Israel). Here’s the entire ‘resolved’ section of the resolution:
I’ve read it yet again and still think that the resolution is aimed at forestalling action against Israel at the UN.
Truman recognized the State of Israel, not the Jewish State of Israel.
