Jane has a post regarding Reid’s indication that a ‘healthcare reform’ delay by Reid is, as a guess by her, "White House and Reid argue about who’s going to take the heat for ditching the public option.".
I disagree. It seems much more likely to me that the delay is to subvert ‘progressive/liberal’ opposition to what they-meaning House and Senate- have crafted
as legislation to provide ‘healthcare reform’.
Kuchinch’s amendment giving State’s the right to implement single payer is ‘off the table’. And Eshoo’s amendment is still in HR3962.
I don’t post at Kos and am not a fan of his BUT this is one time when he ‘hits the nail on the head’:
"Tonight’s big lesson

There will be much number-crunching tomorrow, but preliminary numbers (at least in Virginia) show that GOP turnout remained the same as last year, but Democratic turnout collapsed. This is a base problem, and this is what Democrats better take from tonight:
1. If you abandon Democratic principles in a bid for unnecessary "bipartisanship", you will lose votes.
2. If you water down reform in favor of Blue Dogs and their corporate benefactors, you will lose votes.
3. If you forget why you were elected — health care, financial services, energy policy and immigration reform — you will lose votes.
Tonight proved conclusively that we’re not going to turn out just because you have a (D) next to your name, or because Obama tells us to. We’ll turn out if we feel it’s worth our time and effort to vote, and we’ll work hard to make sure others turn out if you inspire us with bold and decisive action.
The choice is yours. Give us a reason to vote for you, or we sit home. And you aren’t going to make up the margins with conservative voters. They already know exactly who they’re voting for, and it ain’t you."
Dem’s need to know that between:
The failure to provide real financial reforms (example,"House Panel Votes To Permanently Exempt Small Firms From Part Of Post-Enron Law") or to have prosecutions of those who perpetuated the fraud upon the public that has led to the current situation;
the unwillingness to truly put people above profits when it comes to ‘healthcare reform’;
the unwillingness to explain to the American people the why and necessity for ‘climate change’ legislation that doesn’t try to pass off nuclear energy and coal mining(and it’s attendant mantra of ‘clean coal’ which is a lie) as solutions;
the farce that is our foreign policy(think Iraq,Afghanistan,Honduras,Cuba et al);
the unwillingness to prosecute those responsible for ordering torture;
the lack of job creation;
the inability to truly help those in foreclosure(think ‘cramdown’ re bankruptcy);
the continuance of Bush policies regards wiretapping and ’state secrets’;
the insane politics of ‘bi-partisanship’ when the other Party really has no interest;
the ongoing nominations of people that are industry cheerleaders or lobbyists;
the obvious lack of the transparency campaigned on;
the secret deals with drug companies and insurance companies;
and on and on,
the Democrat ‘brand’ is a piece of shit.
So go here and let Pelosi/Hoyer,Emmanuel,Obama,et all know what you think about the healthcare bill with the ‘manager’s amendment’ in it.
If others know a better way to provide feedback re HR3962, the ‘Affordable Health Care for America Act’. please share.

I’m not a big fan of Kos, either, but what he wrote was superb. I hope someone brings it to everyone in DC.
I’m beginning to think Congress is delaying healthcare reform for one reason only: the longer they delay, the more money the healthcare industry makes.
What’s that old saying? Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today.
The DEM’s evidently never heard that.
Remember that is the Republican straigy delay until you can kill it.
The DEM’s are playing into the Republicans hands.
OH Well!!!!! What’s another twenty or thirty years for Healthcare?
They are more likely to conclude they need to attack the progressives with more loyalty oaths and scare tactics about the supreme court.
Too many of us are growing more and more aware of the differing options regarding justice, and economic protections between the “classes”. I wonder how they will attempt to divert us…….another attack, a “race” war? I don’t feel like voting anymore….and my first vote was for Hubert Humphrey! The parties are virtually identical.
Good ubetchaiam. This is the lesson of the losses in Virginia and New Jersey as I see it also. One’s base is often not enough to win by itself, but, on the other hand, without the base you can’t even come close to winning.
The base is the people, satisfy the people and grow your base, dissatisfy the people lose your base. Those that migrate need some insentive to do it, and if nothing is shown to them they will, undoubtedly go to the opposit party.
They best way to win elections is to make the people happy with the way you have done your job, or promise to do the job. Even if you can fool them.
