Hey California Oxdowners and FirePups, we have an Emergency! We need GOTV volunteers right here, right now. In your town, in your neighborhood, for your neighbors and fellow Californians. Help us preserve fundamental rights in California.
Polling shows Prop 8 is a dead heat — it’s all going to come down to Get-Out-The-Vote, between now and Election Day. And Prop 8 has the money and the ground troops to mount a massive GOTV effort. Does this scare you?
This is happening, right now, in San Diego: 40,000 fundamentalists called by their faith leaders to change California law to conform to their belief system. This is the first step in their plans for a theocracy: a nation ruled by the laws of their god.
Please help us stop Prop 8. Can you please volunteer for one GOTV shift in California to preserve marriage equality? Can you please volunteer to keep discrimination out of our Constitution? Can you please volunteer to GOTV for NO on Prop 8?
Sign up for a volunteer shift right here, and please tell them FireDogLake sent you!
Thanks very much.
And if you have any money to spare after this grueling election season, NO on Prop 8 could use your donation.
If you’ve the stomach for it, GoodAsYou has been eavesdropping on The Call, the hatefest in San Diego. Clips right here.
Video, from embed Lucas O’Connor, of The (very sparsely-attended) Call, at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego.

Thank you Jane
Thank you for your help!
I saw about 30 high school kids with pro 8 signs in Rancho Cordova today. They were from the Russian community. I guess they are still stuck in the totalitarian thought process. Creepy.
Hi Mary! Looking good for a Lungren take-down on Tuesday, you think?
Have they had early voting in CA? It was available here in Illinois. I went to do it yesterday and was told it ended Thursday. WTF? Guess I’ll have to join the crowd Tuesday, hope I don’t spook the herd, been awhile since I’ve attempted to blend in with humans.
We have had early voting in California, yes. And while California early voters are older (and presumably more conservative) Prop 8 has been winning among them. Which means we have a hole to dig ourselves out of on Tuesday.
Any Californians able to sign up for a volunteer GOTV shift?
Even for us non-Californians, November 4th won’t be a success without the defeat of Prop 8.
Illinois voters can cast their ballots before Election Day at designated locations without having to provide a reason or excuse.
Casting your ballot before Election Day makes voting more convenient, especially for the elderly and voters with busy schedules.
No more excuses
Voters do not need to provide an excuse or reason why they cannot make it to the polls on Election Day. You need only to fill out an application at the early voting site.
Dates
Prior to the Tuesday, November 04, 2008 Presidential General Election, Early Voting will take place Monday, October 13, 2008, through Thursday, October 30, 2008.
Across the rest of the country, early voting has been rumored to favor Obama. Fortunately, most of us outside California haven’t had to contend with the usual GOP wedge issues. According to the TPM poll tracker, Obama is leading in California by nearly 25 points, hopefully most of them intend to vote no on 8.
They told me I needed an excuse. Anyway, my polling place is less than a 100 yards away and I don’t have anything else planned Tuesday. I’ll go mid-morning or mid-afternoon (more likely, I need a few hours to reconcile with consciousness). Shouldn’t be a problem.
We triumphed over the evil visiting Iowans today in the last 30 seconds.
They told me I needed an excuse.
Can you tell ‘em you’re planning to have a cold?
or a hangover?
Someone has been defacing the Yes on Prop 102 -YesforMarriage ballot measure…… by spray painting over the
Yeswith a No…..I just got a call to set up my training for tomorrow. I am working all day on Tuesday for No on 8.
I heard that the fundies are fasting down in San Diego. Hope they are too weak to have sex to make more of themselves.
Or that I want to vote as many times as possible and need a head start?
grabbed the link, teddy. i will see if i can move some stuff around and open up a few hours
Or that I want to vote as many times as possible and need a head start?
I tried that – no good here.
What’s the use of being schizophrenic if you can’t vote more than once? (that’s the argument they didn’t buy).
me too. the bastards were heavy in my neighborhood today but got no love
If you’re voting via touch-screen, you should be allowed one ballot for each part of the body that will reach…
Hoping!
Thanks for your work on Election Day, Mary. I hope you are rewarded with a shiny new Congresscritter, too.
i am reading the pitch at that GOTV link, and what it says is that they want volunteers for “visibility events”. which sounds pretty much like stand on the side of the road with No on 8 signs and yell “woohooooo! no on 8!” at passing autos. that and hovering around the fringes of polling places with literature.
is that what GOTV work usually is? i have no experience so honestly i have no idea. i’m suprised a little. does that stuff work at all? strangers trying to hand me brochures generally evoke a negative response, don’t they? maybe i am just a crank. or i just can’t accept the kinds of things that will change or make up a voter’s so-called mind……
Pouring rain did not deter the No on 8 in the San José/Santa Clara area! We’ll be out again on Sunday. Just say NO to hate.
Come on California – we must show the world that hate and discrimination will NOT be written into our state constitution~
We hold “No on 8″ signs – people “honk” their approval. Of course there are a few “one fingered” salutes, but that does not deter our passion.
No fliers are distributed.
