I went to my polling place in DC at 7Am (opening time). Already there was a one hour long line that spanned four full blocks.
I voted :)
I love the smell of democracy in the morning – it smells like victoryBy: Ari Tuesday November 4, 2008 5:40 am |
those pictures of lines are soothing somehow ari
it will be a long day today
Of course its in DC but its kind of cool to see even when our votes really don’t matter people are still coming out. (There are a bunch of important local races – specifically At Large city council.)
Here in rural Missouri, there was actually a line…not like y’all “big city folk” get, but I was number 546 at eight-thirty in the morning. Our polling place seldom runs over into triple digits, so this was remarkable. My grammy was still trying to persuade me that Obama was “dangerous”, even on the way into the gym. I voted dangerous anyway…
Personally, I find those images very exciting and uplifting. People making time for an American Citizen’s duty and privilege, being involved in our civic process, knowing that politics touch them in a most personal manner, participating in democracy!
But yet, I harbor this terrible fear that somehow, someway, this election will be snatched away from us.
