Victory for the nation, exhaustion for the team.
A sad loss for the No on 8 folks in California, which my daughter and I worked on. Much to contemplate.
Time to rest, and to reflect.
Scottish mountains, of course. Perhaps it’s time to visit Scotland again, where my soul expands.

Scotland, nice nice choice. Took the day off today, to just reset the mind and body after weeks of being in hyper-drive
BTW, Pups can I tell you how hard everybody backstage worked yesterday? I was in awe of them. Really great job, crew.
I am so proud to be a firepup
Thanks loosehead. I figured a lot of people were having post partum blues today, even with all we won there is still some sadness.
Listening to Barber’s Adagio for Strings
Don’t let the Prop 8 thing get you down. The battle is far from over.
egregious, the Barber Adagio is one of the first classical pieces I ever loved. I remember well hearing it played over and over after the murder of Jack Kennedy. For me, the piece has always seemed like a Requiem, with its strong funereal emotional connection, coupled with its gently rising force and redemptive ending.
Thanks masaccio, that is very healing.
Wonderful job EG.
Take a break and look to tomorrow,it will get better.
egregious,
from my fortune cookie at lunch today: “Hope has no other desire but to fulfill itself.”
I might add “no other mission” as well. Applies to fulfilling the unfinished work left in the wake of Prop 8, as well as the task of reclaiming America. As Nelson said, the battle is far from over.
Hope will be fulfilled . . .
egregious — I feel your pain, had a close friend lose a race because they were set upon with vicious, ugly anti-gay attack ads during the last two weeks of the race. Just sick about it, and yet so happy that we’ve made such progress in the last 2-4 years towards taking back our democracy.
I wonder if we simply needed more time; perhaps what is needed is a strong articulate leader with a background in constitutional law who can communicate clearly to the public about the need to set aside all barriers to civil rights? Perhaps with enough help from someone like this, especially after a couple more progressive justices have been named to the supreme court, we’ll be ready to embrace the right of all citizens to enter into social contracts to care for one another, regardless of religion or gender.
And perhaps the recently signed law forbidding discrimination against citizens on the basis of their genetics will also provide a new angle of attack. I am a woman because of my genes, yes? What if I were gay because of my genes — under the new law, could I be denied equal protection under the law because I was born with a set of genes that made me a woman, or made me gay?
Keep the faith. And thanks for mentioning Barber’s Adagio; I’ll ask my daughter to consider playing it with her school orchestra since they have a chance to suggest pieces.
Thanks Rayne, and I loved your diary about the election.
Nice post EG. I meant to read it yesterday, but I was doing catch-up housework. Today, I will try to rest a bit and contemplate who we are, what we’ve accomplished and where to focus next.
Thanks for your kind and considerate attitude.
We are all going to rest I feel like I’ve been mainlining coffee for a month straight.
Hey Demi, much appreciated.
