This is what Home Depot’s founder Bernie Marcus said on a conference call yesterday:
If a retailer has not gotten involved with this, if he has not spent money on this election, if he has not sent money to Norm Coleman and these other guys," Mr. Marcus said, apparently referring to Republican senators facing tough re-election fights, then those retailers "should be shot; should be thrown out of their goddamn jobs.
It’s nice to know Home Depot supports the death penalty for not contributing to their favored political causes.
The coming EFCA fight is going to be bloody.

Well, Lowes is a few miles farther but only a few. I’ll not be in a Home Depot in the foreseeable future . . .
How’s that vote counting going, anyway? I expected Keillor to have commented today.
home depot should be de-certified, they should pay the price of rebuilding the local industry to which they have destroyed
It’s too bad . . . I hope Tony Stewart finds someone else to pay for his Toyota ride.
It looks more like Home Depot supports assassination if you don’t agree with their politics.
Time to BOYCOT
I am NOT condoning what he said, but Marcus retired from Home Depot 6 years ago. It sure does seem like an over the top thing for someone to say that is contributing huge sums of money to worthwhile causes. Maybe he’s getting senile. Look up Bernard Marcus on Wikipedia:
quote:
Marcus almost single-handedly funded and launched the new Georgia Aquarium that opened in downtown Atlanta, Georgia in 2005. Based mostly on the US$200M million donation for the Aquarium, Marcus and his wife, Billi, were listed among the top charitable donors in the country by The Chronicle of Philanthropy in 2005.
Bernie Marcus also funded and founded The Marcus Institute, a nationally recognized center of excellence for the provision of comprehensive services for children and adolescents with developmental disabilities. In May 2005, Marcus was awarded the Others Award by the Salvation Army, its highest honor.
Marcus is currently chairman of the Marcus Foundation, whose focuses include children, medical research, free enterprise, Jewish causes and the community. Mr. Marcus was inducted into the Junior Achievement U.S. Business Hall of Fame in 2006.
Thanks for this info. Sounds like the Marcus’ are good people. Maybe it’s the aluminum cookware?
I will not be shopping at Ho Depot anytime soon. Boycott!
If you want to let Home Depot hear how you feel about what Bernie Marcus said, I offer 2 web addys:
ron_defeo@homedepot.com, VP of Coporate Communications
diane_dayhoff@homedepot.com, VP of Investor Realtions
I quit shopping at Home Deport when this fascist donated $1M to Bush’s second inauguration party. Thirteen million American children went to bed hungry that night. Lowe’s may run with the red, but they don’t rub your nose in it. I’ll be watching when Home Depost files for bankruptcy.
Digg this!
Well, I certainly won’t be shopping at Home Depot anymore. There is a Lowes about a minute from the Home Depot, but even if I had to drive further I would. I believe in voting with my wallet.

And that, ladies and gents, is why I haven’t stepped foot into a Home Depot in years (well, stuff like this and their crappy service).
My suggestion: Visit your local hardware store as much as possible. Places like “Do-It-Yourself” stores are franchised and locally owned (mostly) and the folks are great.
Another note: Domino’s Pizza is another company to avoid. Their owner is a certifiable nutbag.
Thank you, Mr. Marcus, for assuring that I will again have to step foot in a Home Depot again. I have a great old-fashioned hometown hardware store just blocks from my home and a regional, locally owned chain home improvement store about 10 miles away that I will be happy to patronize. I will also make sure all my other progressive friends know all about your views on this matter.
Oooops. Make that first sentence “…assuring that I will never have to step foot in a Home Depot again.”
When will I learn not to fume and post at the same time?
According to http://retailindustry.about.co…..litics.htm
Arthur Blank, co-founder of Home Depot, supported Barack Obama.
I’m already boycotting Home Depot because of their terrible customer service. So nice to know that none of the many thousands spent on our deck has gone to them. Lowes is a mile or two further but between them and the local hardware store I’m certain we can avoid Home Depot permanently.
No business from me or my business. Very dogmatic remark for a person depending on the free market for success.
May I just join in on the Home Depot boycott. I will also have to tell the contractor who lives in the neighborhood. We just had a Lowe’s v. Home Depot discussion since we’re pretty much in the middle…
Your comments are appreciated. However, I wanted to add that any person with a substantial amount of wealth has an established foundation (and those egotistical enough will hold it in their names). This is due to taxation. Usually a certain amount of money will have to be given away anyway or face additional taxes which instead will be given away to the government. The larger the individual’s income stream the more they need to give away. Very few a true philanthropists as too many have alternative agendas (often unspoken strings attached to their donation). I can go on but I’m sure the gist is understood.
It’s funny that these business guys just don’t get it. During Bill Clinton’s Administration, Home Depot went from around 10 dollars a share to around 50. During the current republican administration it went from 50 to 20. Perhaps that is why we think ‘Upper Management’ is clueless as to which Political Party is the business party
I wrote to them yesterday after reading the above posts, and here is what response I got:
“Thank you for contacting us in this matter.
Our founder and former CEO was obviously using hyperbole to make a point about a specific piece of legislation, the Employee Free Choice Act, and we will be sure to pass your comments along to him.
As it relates to EFCA, like most other retailers — including our main competitors — we think it’s a bad bill that takes away American workers’ right to a secret ballot, which is the most basic element of any democracy.
Sarah, Home Depot Communications “
Bernie Marcus another ultra rich greedy bxstard (I could use other descriptors but someone would accuse me of something I’m not) who is more concerned about containing the minuscule earnings of those many Americans who work and shop at his stores than advancing the overall US economy. He is a major part of the problem as are most of his elite peers on Wall Street that are sucking America dry with their special $700B bailout .
Simple answer to bitter man Marcus, boycott Home Depot. I have a good reason to shop at Lowes, I’m not supporting hatred & bigotry. Amazing people, go to bible studies but promote hatred & hypocracy.
