You’ve seen the act: now the reviews. I’d say there are many happy people around the world feeling that Muthathar al Zaidi speaks for them. Gorilla Guides reports he said this as he threw the shoes, a parting shot heard round the world:
First Shoe: "This is the gift from the Irakis this is the farewell kiss you dog." Second Shoe: "This is from the widows, the orphans and those killed in Irak. "
Bloggers respond: Raed in the Middle: Message from the Iraqi People :)

3eeraqimedic: Cold Water on My Heart!!!!
I’m sending a shoe to the White House, myself. A perfect ending gesture (not farewell) to the Worst. President. Ever.

thanks Laura Doty, nice to get the translation.
All credit due to Erdla of GG and Siun, who asked for the translation.
Juan Cole made the discovery via Google that it was 5 years ago today, to the day, that crowds beat a picture of Saddam Hussein with their shoes (after his capture).

Seconded.
Updates at JPN.
Now there’s a thought!
Notwithstanding the darkly humorous aspects of this incident, imagine if you dare the pain behind those words Mr. al-Zaidi shouted. Just a glimpse of it is almost more than I can handle at the moment.
A mound of shoes to the White House.
Hundreds of millions around the world applaud Muthathar al Zaidi. May he stay safe and not be a victim of revenge.
He did what American MSM refuses to do. He called out the war criminal for his crimes. If MSM had 1,000th of the courage of this man, there would not be an occupation of Iraq, or Afghanistan.
The power of one..what an example he showed. I cannot imagine the stress he must have been experiencing before he did what he did. What words to pick as he knew he would only have seconds to deliver them? What to say to the man who destroyed your country, your people?
I wonder how many world citizens will not only applaud Muthathar al Zaidi, but follow his example or yours? I wonder if we’ll find out how many shoes arrive at the WH in the coming days?
The GOP wingnuts are all in a lather about this Good Job! Any word on the fate of the Shoe Thrower has anyone seen him after he was arrested? I’m guessing the cops beat him up.
Just wrote to Code Pink asking them to start a “SHOE THROWER’S DEFENSE FUND” Please contact them or anyone other group that would have the where with all to get such a fund started. This man needs to know that he has our support, admiration and appreciation
Please contact Code Pink or anyone else that could pull this off

BAGHDAD — Thousands of Iraqis took to the streets Monday to demand the release of a reporter who threw his shoes at President George W. Bush, as Arabs across many parts of the Middle East hailed the journalist as a hero and praised his insult as a proper send-off to the unpopular U.S. president.
The protests came as suicide bombers and gunmen targeted Iraqi police, U.S.-allied Sunni guards and civilians in a series of attacks Monday that killed at least 17 people and wounded more than a dozen others, officials said.

Iraqi group files 200 lawsuits against Rumsfeld, US security firms. It is a Jordanian based Iraqi rights group, so maybe they can offer assistance to get the journalist out of jail. They probably have contacts within Iraq. Someone, anyone, has to save that courageous man.

Name a Nike after him, the “Air Zaidi’s”
That’s a great idea. Hell some shoe company in Iraq could make millions
