The eye of an artist

One year ago, the first ‘You Suck at Photoshop’ youtube was uploaded. Happy Anniversary!

I first heard of this hilarious instructional video series from my friend, artist/computer guru Bill-he’s the one staring at you at the top of the page.above.look up.
Click on his name then click on Gallery. Eye Candy.

What a year YSAP Donnie had, he went viral. Millions of ‘hits’. And it’s no wonder. His series of photoshop tips amidst ongoing tribulations and interruptions is one of the funniest things I’ve ever watched. From the menus, titles and photos in his ’screen folders’ to his sly witty jokes that I sometimes don’t ‘get’ until later, he is one funny nerd.

From the virgin youtube description:

Donnie Hoyle pulls a digital end-around on a restraining order and vandalizes a Vanagon.

My first exposure to Donnie was ‘Vanishing Point’, lesson #10, from Season 1. (There are two seasons). I laugh just thinking about it. He uses a train of friends to illustrate what it is. I had tears in my eyes, laughing, the poor guy. I was hooked and smitten with Donnie Love. Or Donnie Pity, don’t know which.

YSAP’s new project is called Agency of Record, a web comedy series set at an ad agency.
The host site for this hilarity and other things is MyDamnChannel. Info page for the site .

I had forgotten about the YSAP series until I found it on a list of comedy videos on a site that I like. I went back to the original youtube and it just happened to be their Anniversary!! And once again noticed things I missed the first hundred times I watched them. (i.e. how many surveillance photos he took of the Vanagon-the name is a joke, too. ROFL ‘he’s ate up’.)

When Oxdown was first mentioned, I wanted to do a series of diaries on Art-related things. Art Stuff. ‘You Suck at Pgotoshop’ deserves the maiden voyage. The ‘typo’ was on purpose, you’ll get it when you watch the videos.

"Art can’t hurt you" unless it hits you on the head or falls on your foot or causes a car crash. Or causes a slow death due to all of the chemicals you ingest and absorb doing it. But there’s always a down side. And an up side. And that part in the middle.

A little hilarity never hurt anyone.
Here’s to hilarity.
(Yes, hilarity is my word of the week.)

We might delve into the ‘outrageous’ next time. Haven’t decided, my Muse hasn’t voted yet. What=evah word of the week the Muse says, wins.

Happy Trails
