Interesting. Maureen Dowd banned from McCain campaign plane. Gwen Ifill told by the McCain team to watch herself with the foreign policy questions in Thursday night’s veep debate. Rumors flying that CBS has something even more interesting to broadcast from the Couric Tapes.
Rachel Maddow, Campbell Brown, Kathleen Parker…watch your backs.
We don’t quite know how this will play out, but seems obvious the thuggery of the cynical, sexist McCain camp, and its misogynistic attitude toward women, is starting to come out of the closet into full-blown bullying assault on women in the media.
Will there be enough left to serve at the barbeque?

Update: Washington Post’s Howard Kurtz notes this a.m. that some journalists privately acknowledge they are coddling Palin [Kurtz says they admit to censoring…].
h/t to Thinkprogress for the signpost to this column.
Good Day, Sunshine!
I don’t know if the male “journalists” worry about being accused of misogyny (which the McCain campaign will do in any event), or merely incompetent. Probably a little of both. Seems like most of the substantive scrutiny of McCain or Palin has come from women, from the hosts of The View, to Campbell Brown who has really raised the bar from the normally flaccid coverage at CNN. Of course in reality, Palin hasn’t been asked ANY really difficult questions, in her interviews with Gibson and Couric, she stumbled over what should have been fairly predictable stuff.
I’m not certain what to make of the fact that McCain won’t even let a surrogate talk to Rachel Maddow, other than that it suggests extreme cowardice.
Another tidbit to add to this topic, the word that Tom Brokaw is “liaison” between the McCain campaign and NBC.
Gee, who could have guessed.
And since when is it the purview of the MTP host to do the McCain campaign’s talking points for them, as Brokaw did last Sunday? Can we put these stuffed shirt ol’ white guys into retirement and keep them there?
Facts is facts…And, turns out, Russert is sorely missed at NBC.
As is Ashleigh Banfield, for that matter.
Great diary, PS. This is the weirdest, most interesting and dreadful campaign (the GOP side I mean) in years.
Funny you should write that. I asked a fried who is for McCain-Palin to give me a hand-full of (5) points to sway me to vote for their ticket…
Crickets. Followed by some Palin-ease answer about how every-day she is and that means change. How “everyday” is McCain? Crickets. I asked how competent she saw her arguments for change in light of an economic meltdown based on Republican deregulation?
Crickets.
Then a Tina Fay take on Palin-cute (nervousness I assume)…I told her it didn’t work on me…Try again.
She had nothing.
Should be friend (not fried)!
We need to ask CBS to run whatever they have that is interesting from the interview before Thursday. Not because of the debate. I want Tina Fey to have enough time to do another skit!!!
Jeebuz, PS.
Rachel doesn’t need to watch her back any more today than she did yesterday.
GOoPers won’t talk to Rachel Maddow. Fer goshsakes she’s goldarn lesbin, y’know? Not to mention bein’ a communist-pinko-liberal-fascist.
K Parker, on the other hand … well, I doubt anyone who rides on the Forked Tongue Express (TM) is talking to her.
BC
agreed, YCMTSU
Perhaps there’s still time to have Tina Fey do the debate and Sarah Palin can do SNL. If she knows what it is.
Did you see she doesn’t read any news source? Can’t cite any Supreme Court case other than Roe v. Wade.
Betcha she and Cindy are havin’ a grand ol’ time while John Scurrilous McCain hot-foots back to DeeCee for the big vote.
