What’s up with the Republicans? Have they no sense that their policies have sent the country hurtling down the road to ruin? Are they so divorced from reality that in their delusional state they honestly believe we need more of their tax cuts for the rich and their other forms of plutocratic irresponsibility, the very things that got us to this deplorable state?
Explain this: As Governor Romney implemented health care reform that requires residents of the Commonwealth to buy health insurance or pay a fine at tax time, which reduced health insurance by 30% – $1800 a year in savings in my case – why is he arguing against a national health policy that aims to do the same?

Fight hard for single payer. Get rid of the middle man insurance companies and then there would be sufficient funds to give every citizen coverage. Of course, politicians don’t want to do that because the companies buy them through donations to campaigns.
Stop the wars and there would be sufficient money. Stop building weapons and there would be sufficient money. Stop bailing out crooks.Stop supporting Israel etc. The money is there, the political will is not. Romney advocates anything that makes him money. National health care won’t make him any.
In British Columbia, where I live, medical coverage is mandatory. Monthly premiums are based on the previous year’s net income. Under $25,000 per year, the government totally subsidizes the cost. If net income exceeds $28,000 per year, then one person pays $54 per mo…. a family of two pays $96 per mo… and a family of three, or more, pays $108 per mo. The maximum a family of 3, or more, would pay per year is $1,296. No co-pay, no limitations on care, no refusals of care..ever. The doctor and the patient make all decisions about medical care.
This has been growing cobwebs for two years. Maybe it is time to start pressuring your Congress critters.

The BBC did a documentary on the health care crisis in America. Sad..it should be your government doing that.

Excellent post.
I’m proud that Massachusetts is at least trying to deal with universal
health care for its citizens.
Politicians yak but never implement.
Let’s see where this takes us, learning along the road.
Republicans only mantra is lower taxes or no corporate taxes.
Has anybody counted the times these dolts blab those words?
Let’s face it the Republicans are doomed.
“Do not go where the path may lead, writes Emerson, “Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”
I have a theory on the “Why do they act like this” question.
I’ve concluded that they’re socially damaged individuals who crave attention in any form.
I equate them to the #1 rule among horse owners. Do not spoil them. This is not a plea to curb behavior human’s find charming until it’s not. This is an important lesson in antisocial behavior. Once spoiled, the chances of helping that animal become trustworthy aren’t good. Spoiling has many manifestations but fearful/controlling aggressive behavior towards life is prominent.I.e. don’t turn your back on a spoiled animal. Don’t trust that animal to be in control of it’s emotions in times of stress.
I’m thinking that most Repubs in office right now are the dregs of the Spoiled Pony Era of our republic.
Yes otherwise they would have to admit that they are wrong.
This remins me of Talleyrand’s observation concerning the Bourbons after they were restored to power. “They have learned nothing and forgoten nothing”
Isn’t it obvious? As I understand it, Romney’s policy fines the poor, who can’t afford health care.
Bully for you that it saved you 30%.
he’s moving the goal posts in order to try to prevent single payer. it’s a protection scam for the insurance industry and pharmaceutical industry. the MA model is a great stop gap – but i don’t see how it is sustainable (btw i’m in MA too and have benefitted tremendously).
we’re going to have to fight like hell for single payer.

Because he has to win the votes of the Fundie, America haters. He doesn’t have to appeal to those damned libruls in Massachusetts anymore.
Or in simple terms..he’s a privileged A$$h%$e. He can buck and bite. His retirement is secure.
Digg it
The same thing that’s always up with them — “Daddy (or Granddaddy or Great Granddaddy) got me mine, so it sucks to be you”
Of course they do, but the more telling thing is that they don’t give a damn.
(See “Bonuses – Wall Street 2008″)
Please reread the “Don’t give a damn” part from above.
what exactly came over mitt?
