Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America released their report card today. Guess which Presidential candidate supports the troops — and get which one doesn’t.
First a description:
Based on the legislative priorities outlined in IAVA’s Legislative Agenda, IAVA Action has selected 22 key votes on veterans’ issues in the 110th Congress (9 votes in the Senate and 13 votes in the House). The votes cover the entire range of issues facing new veterans, including veterans’ health care, the new GI Bill, mental health, and support for homeless veterans. The significance of each individual vote is described in the "Vote Description" section of the report card.
Barack Obama: B
John McCain: D
Way to support the troops John.

Hey, Ari! Great post. Good to know! Where is the recommend button? Can’t find it?
Same as last time, IIRC – except that Obama got a B+ on the last one.
“I love the veterans and I will take care of them”
I’ll tell him the same thing I told the morons at the local VA. Go fuck yourself.
When a post is in the main column there is no rec button. You can’t have your cake and eat it too.
Excellent! I hope that gets published far and wide.
1,788 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Ari and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
With the negative shit storm hittin our political shores from Crazy John McCain it is time to put an end to the “culture war” and the Vietnam debacle…make Iraq and supporting the troops the second thing out of every Democrat’s mouth for the next 3 weeks. Let’s have John McCain and the fascists experience their very own “Little Big Horn”…I think Custer is a good role model for the Crazy John McCains of our political culture.
There is a moment here to do away, once and for all, with the myth of American fascism and it’s hold on loyalty, patriotism and the workin class…Obama must go for the throat tonight, and look Crazy John right in the eyes while he puts a stake through his heart.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, KARMA IS A MOTHERFUCKER AIN’T IT??!!!
One can hope but I’m not sure. Where the fuck are Kerry and Gore, they ought to be rasin hell.
“Guess which Presidential candidate supports the troops”
The one with the yellow ribbon on the back of his SUV?
Citizen Raven:
Do we have one more fight left in us Brother Raven…it seems that our ghosts won’t leave us alone unless we gather ‘em all up and dump ‘em on Crazy John…time for him ta face ‘em , he’s got no where ta run now.
Citizen Raven:
Yeah but I think that they’re waitin for Obama’s lead here…remember that Obama has been callin the shots all along in this campaign, and if he gives the okie doke ta make the smears an issue they’ll come down with both feet…the entire election may turn on whether or not Obama decides to kill the dragon or jest hope it’s too weak to fly.
P.S. Raven
And maybe it’s time that we regular folks, the real American people stand up for ourselves and our candidate and jest say “ENOUGH”!!
As a former POW, St. McCain is not required to support the troops. The troops, however, are required to worship at the feet of St. McCain.
When these results came out last time, I used them in a small debate with an active duty friend of mine. He disregarded both the IAVA and the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) as “fringe supposed veterans groups.”
While I don’t trust his view (he’s extremely close-minded), I have to admit I know little of the two groups, and had never heard of the IAVA before the results reached the news. My question is: How are these two groups actually received? Where do they stand in comparison with, say, the VFW?
Citizen Wembley:
Both the IAVA and the VVA are the real deal…the problem with the Iraq war now is that it has gone on so long and there is no draft to create an immediate anti-war movement inside the military, those that are left on active duty have made their pact with the devil and they can’t afford to question the crimes they have enabled in the name of our country.
Clarification: How are they received by both members of the military and civilians?
Why does the IAVA hate the troops?
There is of course two other important veteran groups:
IVAW — Iraq (and Afghanistan) Veterans Against the War
and
VAIW — Veterans Against the Iraq War
They’re not really impressed with either candidate wrt imperial policy that is the hallmark of the current Washington regime. They don’t think much of the Congress, either.
morning to all true supporters of democracy. This post also needs a link to VetVoice which has the Miserable Record of John Sidney McCain III.
It doesn’t matter which vet group says what. McInsane’s record speaks volumes all by itself.
VFW considers itself nonpartisan. I found an interesting article on their site encouraging vets to vote and the political makeup of the military community. check it out.
There’s also VoteVets.
I’d sure like to see ALL of these groups blanketing southern Virginia [home of many current Navy personnel & retirees] with McCain’s record on veterans’ matters. Hell, they don’t even have to proselytize — just provide the facts & his voting record. It’s shameful that he gets to pull off this crap.
