This is not a deep post, but with people talking about a possible landslide in three weeks, I just wanted to remind everyone how so many of us talked ourselves into thinking we could not make a difference just two years ago.
We dealt with it here at FDL when Ciro Rodriguez lost his special congressional election in Texas, but that’s just one of many examples. People were afraid to hope. Fortunately, they were more afraid not to.
In two years, the Democratic party is on the verge of going from despondent to resplendent.
Over the next two years and more, we have to continue to fight for the soul of the Democratic Party, so what is won can be worth fighting for and keeping.
I thought a little perspective was worth keeping. It’s actually what I started talking about in my blogging around here, back in the day.

hey Pach!
there were a lot of long time firedogs on the threads for the first prez debate . . .had me thinking about that very post of yours (one of about half a dozen FDL’s seared in to this dfh brain)and how very far we have come –
of course, was also chuckling at the patience you, Christy, and Jane have displayed in dragging a bunch of then-WATB’s to 2008 and all it portends
thanks Bro
It seems like a lot longer than two and a half years or so, doesn’t it?
Time flies when you are having fun!!
Thanks for reminding us Pach.
Have been particularly struck by the amazing, quantum improvement in the ads, both radio and TV, sponsored by Dems and their surrogates.
Barack’s ads are terrific — responsive, clear and timely. Also, the DSCC has been doing great work in the Senate campaigns. I credit their installment series (using two great older gentlemen) for the turnaround in the NC Senate polls.
Here’s the latest:

Don’t know who is producing these but it’s as if they’re from a party that finally gets it re message. Hooray!

There is a song recorded by Robin Flowers a coupla decades ago with the title, “Still Ain’t Satisfied,” on a woman’s lib theme, written by a Left Coast activist. If I were at home, I’d provide the lyrics, but I’m not. Its not on the web that I’m aware of. Anyway, maybe we can stage a contest to update the verses, because that song hits the right notes (heh).

Before Howard Dean came along, as far as I was concerned the Dems had completely sold Al Gore down the river with their feckless almost-GOP mimicry.
Working on an informal report on the topic of ‘Political Blogs” a few years back, I needed to narrow my focus. I narrowed it to Plame, and was stunned at the caliber of info at FDL and several other places.
I’m still convinced that if Jane, CHS, and the rest of FDLers and a few other blogs hadn’t so eloquently explained legal procedures and related minutia, that the Plame investigation would have been ignored in the MSM.
You’ve accomplished a huge amount.
And the expression ‘rubber stamp’ has a whole new resonance in the vernacular.
Kudos, one and all.
We dealt with it when Holy Joe won. I hope Ned runs again. I hope the Lake is ready to support him again!
pach, I know as a fact those of us here at the fdl made THE differance in more then one election
jane has created quite a force here hasn’t she
The old guys in the rocking chairs are great but there is one ad that would put Liddy Dole away. Wish they would do it.
Even Republicans have a bee in their bonnet about Dole rarely showing her face in NC except to fund raise. All the ad would have to do is have some group of people talking and say in regard to the subject at hand, “she’s not from around here is she?” That would resonate with every North Carolinian, Dem, and Repub, that I know. It would bring it home for Kay Hagan.
Raven? You still around? I gits lost with all these parallel universeries, dang.
Kudos, on earlier(?) comment of yours on one-a these dang threads, to some guy who beg to differ & therefore triple-dice nuances when voting this time around. Obama ain’t far enuf left to suit the particularities of the fella’s grand scheme in hisown grand noggin.
Good gawd. At a time like this??? Are people like that bein’ snarky, or flat-out disconnected and crazy?!
I would have broken my monitor if I’d been on duty when that comment flew in through the pebbleglass tilt-windows. Thank you for taking that one and, I gather, others lately that the rest of us miss.
You’re a special guy, albeit with a tad too much self control. My inner child make-believe chopped a few people across the shins today. For shame: ANYONE who incites violence EVER. And the same goes to any who would quibble and throw away their vote at a time like this.
Mygawd. We live within 1/2 hr. of Strongsville. If they don’t have any more sense than shown in the yootoob clips floating around, I’m mortally embarrassed for them, for they’re idiots, pure & simple. I can’t even remember where the other clips of rowdy pseudotuffguys & their wimmen came from. PA? FL?
Fwiw, I kinda suspect some of the fruitloops outside the venue in Stgsville might have flown in from some random space-cadet colony. They were coached, big time.
Cindy? What can I say?! I hope she breaks out head-to-perfectly-manicured-toe in big ugly green warts. She and Sarah were U.G.L.Y. today. Stay tuned for judge ruling from AK tomorrow.
Keith & Rachel were terrific tonight. Suggest re-runs might make you feel a bit better. The Cainglass ain’t half full nor half empty nor just cracked. It’s shattering before our eyes.
Stay safe AND SANE, everyone.
Try to breathe, Raven. Some of us won’t be able to exhale completely for some time yet. We’ll just have to cope. I can’t take many more awful elections like this.
Yes, I know this is a big jumble AND EPU’d. So what. Maybe you’ll even see it. Rest up when you can, Raven, and may your favorite sports teams win big! ;->
We’ve come a long way baby.
It’s not over ’till it’s over though.
The Republicans have lost the House and the Senate, I don’t think they can alter that many votes.
Either way, Short Ride is Cat food.
Wow, I used to follow robin and nancy vogel and the band around the bay area. What was the name of the band?
Berkeley Women’s Music Collective.
Read about it HERE.
Still Ain’t Satisfied
http://maggiesmetawatershed.bl…..tches.html
Oh they’ve got women on TV
But I still ain’t satisfied
Cause cooptation’s all I see
And I still ain’t satisfied
They call me Ms
They sell me blue jeans
Call it “Women’s Lib”
Make it sound obscene
And I still ain’t — woa, they lied
Cause I still ain’t — woa, they lied
Still ain’t satisified.
I keep thinkin’ there’s some mistake
I still ain’t satisfied
Cause every minute a woman gets raped
I still ain’t satisfied
They say okay, put in a street light
But they lock us down, down, down
When we learn to street fight
And I still ain’t — woa, they lied
Cause I still ain’t — woa, they lied
Still ain’t satisified.
It boils down to Obama’s message from the beginning…H.O.P.E
President Obama understands human nature. That fact has brought us to this point.
I unequivocally reject the notion that any one individual is responsible, or that Obama has an understanding of human nature beyond what I (a doctor of psychology) or millions of others in the country possess.
Obama successfully rode and channeled a wave that was there for him to ride. His actual operation is still highly controlled from the center by a small band of Washington elites, and his policy choices under pressure reflect this (softer foreign policy imperialism, FISA, backing the Paulson plan to the hilt, rejecting mortgage and bankruptcy reform from the bill).
Political messianism leads to less, not more, freedom.
Can’t find the actual ad at the moment, but it does exist. The one I’m thinking about details the #s of days Dole has spent in NC during her tenure as a senator.
It’s a pretty damning indictment….talk about a carpetbagger.
Re Republicans and Dole. I loathed Jesse Helms but his office staff always had excellent constituent services…even if he knew you were a political arch enemy.
Have heard several diehard Repubs complain bitterly that they cannot get even the barest response from Dole on any issue.
