Marcy just blew a giant hole in Team Palin, right at the waterline.
On Jan. 4, 2007, a month into the Palin administration and his tenure as public safety commissioner, Mr. Monegan was called to the governor’s Anchorage office to meet Todd Palin. Mr. Palin was seated at a conference table with three stacks of personnel files.
That, Mr. Monegan recalled, was the first time he heard the name Mike Wooten. “He conveyed to me that he and Sarah did not think the investigation into Wooten had been done well enough and that they were not happy with the punishment,” Mr. Monegan said. “Todd was clearly frustrated.”
I cannot wait for the spin to come out of the McCain damage control team.
Someone please tell me how a spouse of any public office holder has the authority to drag public employees onto the carpet and badger them over subjects that are clearly regulated as to access, while having private employee employment files at their fingertips, literally.
Tell me how Todd Palin has any authority over anything except what to bring home for dinner.

excellent rant, busted (and recommended it too)
such a clever title, brings a smile
Sorry, Todd and Sarah have no Clue.
Oh, heavens to betsy, we are ALL so excited that The First Dude is gonna be visiting Maine!! He is going to be at a snowmobile dealer someplace and someplace in Palmyra (go ahead, find it on the map).
I am just absolutely tickled pink that The McCain campaign is actually spending MONEY in Maine, on both this nonsense and on advertising, because they think they have a shot at the Second District (most of rural, northern Maine, where moose skinning is an important skill). And WHY are they spending their precious dough? How many electoral votes are they trying to skim off?
One.
Yup. One electoral vote. How desperate are they?
I’m heartbroken that I won’t be able to make it up to Palmyra though.
Speaking of spouse, Cindy really looked bad standing behind John at the rally in Wisconsin. Shifty eyes that looked waterlogged, shit may be getting to her.
John’s Depends is leaking, again.
she’s useless to that campaign. why doesn’t she just go home? keeping an eye on the old guy?
It makes me shudder to imagine seeing her as First Lady for four or more years.
Anyone know what time the official Troopergate report comes out?
Don’t think the old guy is able to do much swinging these days. I read somewhere the other day that he generally makes one campaign stop a day and Obama is doing 3 or 4. McC has simply run out of steam.
She looks like that Vulcan in Star Trek 2 – the Wrath of Khan
Lucky for him, otherwise he’d be falling even further behind
When I’ve seen his schedule published, it always seems to be one stop a day. Many times, Palin matches that schedule. It’s really strange, unless they’re just going through the motions because they’ve given up.
OK — the ’smoking gun’ is this: “Mr. Palin was seated at a conference table with three stacks of personnel files.” Palin has no official capacity with the State of Alaska – he has no right to even LOOK at personnel files. Find the person who got him those files and you’ve got the person you need to bust this wide open.
but but but …… he’s the MAN in the family!
There’s definately alot of that attitude going on. It makes the Palin pair dangerous to have in any poer positions.
I loved the media handwringers last night trying to make excuses for the fact that she’s the first spouse who’s been given the role of “attack dog” in a prez campaign…and the message she used was a lie. Pathetic. I’d probably be on drugs too…no wait, I wouldn’t be married to the son of a bitch.
The people of Alaska might have a few words about that as well. I don’t see them being happy with it.
Oh, that was really bad language on my part and not nice to Mrs. McCain (senior). I do apologize to her. She didn’t deserve that.
Laughing, how true.
Come to think of it she may have been a little loop-de-loop!
Tell me how Todd Palin has any authority over anything except what to bring home for dinner.
Maverickicity runs in the family?
(congrats on the front page Busted – great post)

Well done Busted.

The tinyu is TPM. Go there to read more. It will piss you off.
The DH works for the State of NY and I can tell you that even if I showed up at the HR office and asked to see his folder (but, but, he’s my husband), they’d laugh me out of town. Either Sarah herself went into those files, fished them out and gave them to him or he got one of the clerks to get them for him. I could use a lawyer here (Christy…LHP?). Either way, he had no reason or standing to look into those files, much less use the information in them to harass and discipline Monegan, Wooten or anyone else.
Will Ferrell Translates George Bush On The Economy
Funny, yet sadly accurate.
(((((SUZ))))) Great to see ya in da morning!
Imagine if Hillary Clinton called up someone like that when Bill was Prez. Or if Pelosi’s husband called up the FBI and said he and Nancy didn’t like the field agent, her ex brother-in-law, and wanted him fired.
NEW YORK In a surprising a letter to the editor published in The New York Times today, the chief prosecutor of the Weather Underground in the 1970s expressed outrage over the linking of Barack Obama to Bill Ayers by the McCain campaign, adding, ”Although I dearly wanted to obtain convictions against all the Weathermen, including Bill Ayers, I am very pleased to learn that he has become a responsible citizen.”
William C. Ibershof also corrects a charge in the Times: ”I do take issue with the statement in your news article that the Weathermen indictment was dismissed because of ’prosecutorial misconduct.’ It was dismissed because of illegal activities, including wiretaps, break-ins and mail interceptions, initiated by John N. Mitchell, attorney general at that time, and W. Mark Felt, an F.B.I. assistant director.”
Felt, of course (you may have already forgotten), was also known as a guy called ”Deep Throat.”
The full letter follows. For constant coverage of the media and the campaign go to our new blog at:

Federal agency staff are prohibited by law from accessing or releasing personal information about others. Privacy Act (5 U.S.C. § 552a).
I imagine that there is a similar prohibition against anyone, especially non-agency persons, in state government allowing access to personal information contained in a personnel file without authorization.
Short: First dude is a lawbreaker.
Thanks. Can’t say I’m suprised.
The truth will not deter Republics from shouting their current talking points.
The more drugs you consume the less effect they have..tolerance builds up and stress levels grow. Expect a nervous breakdown her financials are probably not looking good either. Is John becoming more abusive?
There’s just something so deliciously, darkly ironic that “Deep Throat” and John Mitchell were involved in screwing up the prosecution of Bill Ayers and other members of the Weather Underground–set aside whatever views you held about their actions 35 years ago. The parallels BURN.
First dude is a dangerous twit but he certainly does have a certain strut – really important fellow. s/
Remind those of us who do not remember it well with more details and more info on the way you see the paallel. Or, a link would do.
no! really, I had no idea!
Great find, Raven. Thank you for that! Talk about exoneration!
nicely done, and get that public so todd sees it he will go balistic, forced to take a back seat to his wife
it is also brutally obvious he plans on being the vice president, dressed as his wife
this is big stuff busted, good on ya
Do you remember “Travelgate”? I believe there was a multi-million dollar special counsel investigation about just this issue: that Hillary Clinton was involved in the firing of some staffers in the White House Travel Office.
raven, you da man, notice my bold here;
Where’s Martha?
6 feet under.

If you don’t know anything about all this weather stuff read about Diana Oughton, grand daughter of the founder of the Boy Scouts.
Joking. . . again.
I knew that, but was looking for an excuse to link to he wiki, parts of which are a hoot.
Just want everyone in the world to cheer up…things could be worse.
Thanks to George W. Bush and his cronys that got all those no bid war contracts, his buds over at the hedge funds that have been bilking pension funds. Huggies to the Master Thief we owe so much to you Nancy.
OT E-mail from Harry Reid says Kay Hagan has a 9% lead over Lizzy Dole. Wouldn’t that be great if she won.
She was great when she was holed up in that hotel!

You’re right. I forgot about that. Here’s from wiki….
Busted…is it payback time yet?
If everyone in thew world has to skip meal so rich people can be richers then are the neocons happy or is there more bad stuff coming our way?
If we know about it can we duck in time?
So this was the October Surprise were all broke for generations.
Empty stores and resturants, gas lines, empty houses.
Gee Senator McCain your policies have given us so much to be ungrateful for.
Please stop helping the economy we can’t afford another Neocon. With everybody nucking it up can we afford an “Ends Timer” on the red button?
Yikes.
Gee George W you seem so un happy… maybe Uraguay is lookung good to you with all that Mooney property to hang out on.
I understand they newspapers don’t deliver out there. I know Nancy will miss you a lot though.
How big was the crowd, er, I mean the audience?
not unless they’ve badly miscalculated
this helps obama and the democrats not the republicans…I cannot believe they thought an event like this would help mccain get elected
no, even they are not this inept, they didn’t want this to happen until after tehy left office
The repukes did not want to run with McInsane so they went out and found a ringer. The Palins were never national political material. Just being in the same room with them would make many conservatives twitchy waiting for winky.
Ya think
News flash from white house kitchen…
Sorry… we don’t do Moose.
Oh MY GOD!
Front paged at THE LAKE!!
THUD.
Hey, Busted — thanks for spotlighting this. I’m waiting for Branchflower any time now.
You OK? . . . breathe . . . how bad was that THUD?
I had to go help my buddy get a bolt out of a trailer.
Thanks fer the spotlight, who ever put it up front.
A lot.
Crowd? Audience? I think you mean Extra Call.
It would be so wonderful to see Dole lose. She has been a terrible senator….the embodiment of cronyism and entitlement.
OT, but EPU’d from the last Todd Palin thread:
Can any lawyers answer that?
I read the article in the largest Alaska daily that said that Palin’s family wanted this done. Her sister had asked attornies how she could go after her ex-husband without having to spend the money to go back to court. But that’s what everyone else has to do, who doesn’t have a well-connected sister in Alaska politics. These people were trying to get even with the brother-in-law on the cheap. Whether the ex was a rat or a great guy it doesn’t matter. They should have done what we all have to do, use the justice system available to them to work this out.
If these people aren’t trailer-park rejects, I’ll eat my shirt.
Can be the financials. People drink more in bad times.
He’s probably not being nice to her in private. Maybe never was.
Why would a rich woman like that want to steal a husband many years older thtan her? She must have had other suitors.
