I have a simple proposal.
From one of the Progressives who has signed on to a principled Healthcare Bill, they should add an amendment:
"Whereas this Body has determined that the benefit of the People of the United States is our prime concern, and
Whereas we have studied this issue extensively, therefore
We find that the selfsame program of benefits and conditions that we have set forth in our legislation shall be the same program of benefits and conditions that we as Legislative Bodies enjoy;
We also find that since the Executive Staff of the President of the United States are also fellow Americans that they shall also enjoy the identical program of benefits and conditions of the legislation These Legislative Bodies shall pass."
That ought to do the trick in my opinion.
Will it happen? No.
But I’m just saying; eat your own damned dogfood, and you’ll find you’ll serve up a better meal.

Imagine the politics of it; they’d have to get to the point of saying, “If it’s good enough for you, it’s good enough for us.”
Amen, amen.
Add the Congressional staffers, every last one of them, too.
Maybe a good tactic is to harass news media to ask our congresscritters whenever the topic is being discussed: and just what kind of healthcare do you have? This is the kind of rude, ad hominem question that the media always avoids (except when sex is concerned), but it is perfectly valid question, of the public good and full disclosure…
Recommended.
Thanks Kelly.
Well they are our public servants, aren’t they? It is certainly my position, and has been for a good long while, that they deserve no better health care than the ordinary American unless they want to pay for it out of their own damn pocket. And that goes for all employees of the federal government, current and retired, and all Congressional staffers too.
Thank you for your report.
Terrific proposal.
I have another proposal. See http://blog.buzzflash.com/honors/188 for the Buzz Flash Putz Award on Charles Gibson’s defense of the status quo. I have nothing but contempt for this idiot. I propose all FDL folks should boycott ABC and let ABC execs and Disney know of our contempt for their editorial policies and “news” personalities, including George Stephanopolous and Diane Sawyer and that we totally, totally reject
and condemn ABC editorial programming.
Blessings,
Here’s the problem with these kinds of recommendations as I understand them. (Anyone more knowledgeable, please set me straight.)
Congresspersons and their staff don’t have public insurance but subsidized private insurance. The insurers know whom their dealing with and so make a point not to screw with benefit claims from these “customers” the way they do with those of average Americans. Even if all Americans technically had the same coverage as Congresspersons, they would not receive the same favored treatment that perpetuates the illusion among Congresspersons and their staffers that a policy actually equals coverage.
