According to the Chicago Sun, Sen. Roland Burris will not seek a second term in the U.S. Senate. He will reportedly announce this to the press tomorrow.
Sen. Burris is planning to announce his decision Friday by issuing a statement to the press. But he’s reportedly not planning to field any questions from the press.
The decision by Burris was based on his inability to raise campaign funds; campaign disclosures with the Federal Election Commission are expected to be filed next week…and he has reportedly only raised approximately $20,000.

His polling must have really sucked eggs…
Guess you can’t buy a seat, even from Blago; you can only rent it.
He’s resigning to spend more time with his memorial.
Following Palin’s example?
As it was, he’d’ve had to go into hock to poll an El platform at three in the morning.
And I do hope that in saying so, I’m not stepping on an otherwise deft piece of wordplay that flew entirely over and past my head.
Anyway, more good news for the Democrats, this. LOL, Attaturk.
Very exciting news for Democrats and for Illinois.
And I bet Barack Obama isn’t unhappy either.
Go Schakowsky?
Hm, maybe. She’s 65 this year (same as Durbin, whose seat’ll be up again in ‘14, and that bears watching), and it’s worth asking how long she intends to stay in the game.
She’s also got a convicted spouse issue that, while not enough to cut into her 3-to-1 spreads in 9th CD races, won’t play in her favor downstate, and least of all in the prevailing atmosphere.
Looking at the lineup card here, I guess Lisa’s staying put @ AG, and Pat’ll run for a full term in the mansion.
Unless Jan can raise gobs of dough in a hurry, I suppose I’d be okay with Giannoulias having a go at this (but I do want to get a better feel for how he’d play in a statewide campaign for an office that voters care about).
IMO the state party would do well to go young as and where it can (although I think that Lisa’s standing pat will pay off for her down the road) while keeping the other side’s up and comers out of high-profile offices; the last thing we want to see is a GOP renaissance in Illinois, and least of all one with any sort of staying power (oh, and the dirt on Mark Kirk will be coming out –stay tuned for that).
I bet an African American is going to take his seat the deal is done otherwise Roland would not roll over so quiet.
