Here is the video clip of testimony given by Ernst Janning as acted by Burt Lancaster in the 1961 movie, Judgment At Nuremberg. This is the trial of the Judges; Janning was the equivalent of our Chief Justice.
I think you will recognize some similarities…such as "Forward, forward is the magic word…"

Thanks, acquarius74. A truly unforgettable performance that speaks of events of today.
Thank you, wigwam. I had ordered the 2 tape video of the movie. So much of it sounds like America today. The Nazis first step was to gain control of the press…
Ever wonder what our country would be like today if our own traitorous Chief Justice Reinquist had not stolen the 2000 election for 43? and the whole world. No wars, No 5000 dead servicemen, no hundreds of thousands of Islamic people dead and refugees, our Judicial system a true hall of justice, not afraid of every arab, not hated by most of the world, not trillions in debt due to the wars, and we might still have a shred of respect and trust in our government.
I was a freshman in high school in 1948 when these trials were finishing up. I remember that America. I never dreamed it would come to this, never.
Here is a summary of the judgements. If you read the transcripts of the trials, you will find that forged evidence was used, testimony was censored, one defendant actually worked to smuggle out Jews from Germany..and last but not least..at least one person was tortured. Not having read the transcripts of the trials recently, these are just a few facts that I remember. The legality of the trials themselves have been called into question. The page of the Avalon project is an interesting one. The chance to expose the financiers of WW2 was stopped by a phone call from someone in Paris. The mistrial was a cover up. By hiding the European industrial financiers, the US financiers were hidden. Prescott and others being protected gave you Bush 1 and 2. I agree with you in regards to the press censorship of the truth. Then, now, and all of the years in between. None of the horrors you mention would have been possible if the press did not lie.

“Forward, forward is the magic word…”..
Gotta wonder about Obama’s speech writer in regards to that line. Send him an e-mail and ask him if he got his inspiration from the movie. Wonder if you’d get an answer?
“Justice O’Connor’s retirement reminds me of her decision in Bush v. Gore and the last dialogue in the 1961 movie Judgment At Nuremberg, directed by Stanley Kramer.
Justice O’Connor’s decision in Bush v. Gore led to the current Bush administration’s execution of war crimes and atrocities in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other places in the Middle East that are as egregious as those committed by the Third Reich and other evil governments in human history.
Justice O’Connor was quoted to have said something to the affect that she abhorred the thought of Bush losing the 2000 election to Gore.
Unfortunately, she tarnished her distinguished career with the deciding vote in Bush v. Gore by going along with the partisan majority of the Court to interfere with a democratic election that she and the majority feared would be lost in an honest recount.
She dishonored herself and the Supreme Court by succumbing to party allegiances and not The Constitution to which she swore to uphold. “

As always, Blue, background work I must do. Can’t today as have kids coming for visit.
In the movie Herr Rolf (Max Schell) asked Spencer Tracy if he had heard the outcome of the I.G. Farben trials; most were acquitted, others light sentences. The IFG building also miraculously escaped the bombs — just so happens that Rockefeller’s offices there.
Ugly thoughts for so early in the morning. Got to get up from here and do necessary things. See ya’ll later.
Have a nice day. Banish all thoughts of politics..’g’.
The US and war criminals..then and now.
*************
“Of the 24 directors of IG Farben indicted in the so-called IG Farben Trial (1947-1948) before a U.S. military tribunal at the subsequent Nuremberg Trials, 13 were sentenced to prison terms between one and eight years. Some of those indicted in the trial were subsequently made leaders of the post-war companies that split off from IG Farben, including those who were sentenced at Nuremberg.
Due to the severity of the war crimes committed by IG Farben during World War II, the company was considered to be too corrupt to be allowed to continue to exist. The Soviet Union seized most of IG Farben’s assets located in the Soviet occupation zone (see Morgenthau Plan), as part of their reparation payments. The Western Allies however, in 1951, split the company up into its original constituent companies. The four largest quickly bought the smaller ones. Today only Agfa, BASF, and Bayer remain, Hoechst having in 1999 demerged its industrial chemical operations to Celanese AG and merged its life-sciences businesses with Rhône-Poulenc’s to form Aventis. “

Thanks for this clip. The parallels to today are breathtaking.
I’ve been working at reducing the thoughts of those parallels – they just won’t go away. Spencer Tracy’s summation is excellent and can be found at the same site: “It came to that the first time you sentenced an innocent man to death.”
OT – Are you up to date on the Wild Horse and Burro roundup in Aug and big sale in Sept? A group of supporters of the HR and S. bills to stop Bureau of Land Mgmt from zeroing out some of the herds is marching in DC on Tuesday. I did a couple of diaries while you were AWOL. [just kidding, hope you were having a wonderful time over the 4th, but we missed your input.]
Yes, the press is controlled in this country.
I too remember the US in different times. I’m just 60 now but remember our country in the 1950’s. What a difference from today. Today we are becoming more and more polarized and of course we have long lost the American Dream. Much of this is due to a big government just getting bigger and more and more people willing to give up freedom for government handouts.
Ike knew and in his farewell speech warned us of the power and greed of the military/industrial complex. Well, now it is the military/industrial/financial/intelligence complex. I wish we could find the head of this octopus and poke his/her eye out.
It was a tough two weeks. We were in horse barns in Mississippi that were probably about 110 degrees.
I’m agnostic on the push to end horse slaughter for food. There is such overbreeding here in Florida, especially in the racing industry, that now that there is no food value for the leftover horses (and no slightly more humane slaughterhouses here) the number of neglected animals is rising rapidly. There is no good solution until the rate of breeding is brought under control.
Thanks for the clip and ideas and ideals worth revisiting.
Dugg.
Jim, are there any wild horse/burro preserves in FL?? I think this big push is to save the wild horses in the western preserves. Whole different kettle of
fishfouls, I think.I think the stats show that in 1971 when current abused law was passed, there were 2 million wild horses/burros on the designated western ranges. Now due to leasing the public lands to ranchers there are about 40,000 wh/b on the same lands and 8 million domestic cattle. I’ll spare all my further rant here. Cattle, oil, water, minerals, banks = zero out our wild horses. Damn bastids. [and I don’t mean the horses.]
Thanks, GP. Have you read Glenn Greenwald’s fine columns today and recently? What and whom he writes about is absolutely mind boggling. Those public figures who spout this garbage sound like they have been indoctrinated in the School For Inhabitants of the New World Order.
[I’m in the line marked, “Quaint”…you know, slated for the Last Picture Show and the green cookie…
Seconded.
Recommended.
Thanks for this acquarius
Going off on what BB said in comment 3, here’s a good synopsis of US industrialists support of Hitler

PS Don’t know if you still have the edit function, but, if you want to embed the video just copy and paste the code
Just go to the original page and look to the right of the video, in the box where it gives the user (person who uploaded the video), then where it says embed, just copy and paste that code into your post and the video will play in your diary
My post is several days old, but I’m gonna try it next time!!! Thanks, John. I’d really like to share the entire movie with all of you’ll. It is 2 VCR tapes. Anyone know how to get it on YouTube? If so, I’ll send it to one of you regular posters.
I’d like to herd every person connected with the gov behind their precious ‘closed doors’ and force them to watch the whole thing, then have them write an essay on each character, the message for us today, and whether it opened their eyes to the value of a single human being…
Hey, Boo~~~ I knew you’d weigh in. Thanks so much for the recommend and the support.

World War II
In interviews, Dietrich stated that she had been approached by representatives of the Nazi Party to return to Germany, but had turned them down flat. Dietrich became an American citizen in 1939.[1]
Dietrich signing a soldier’s cast.
In December 1941, the U.S. entered World War II, and Dietrich became one of the first celebrities to raise war bonds. She entertained troops on the front lines in a USO revue that included future TV pioneer Danny Thomas as her opening act. Dietrich was known to have strong political convictions and the mind to speak them. Like many Weimar-era German entertainers, she was a staunch anti-Nazi who despised antisemitism.
Dietrich recorded a number of anti-Nazi records in German for the OSS, including Lili Marleen. She also played the musical saw, something she had originally learned for stage appearances in Berlin to entertain troops[1]. She sang for the Allied troops on the front lines in Algeria and France, and went into Germany with Generals James M. Gavin and George S. Patton. When asked why she had done this, in spite of the obvious danger of being within a few kilometers of German lines, she replied, “aus Anstand” — “it was the decent thing to do.”
I’m sure there were many good Germans who did not deserve to be branded with that ugly swastika; just as so many of us are horrified at what our country has inflicted upon the entire population of Afghanistan and Iraq. If they spoke out or helped the persecuted ones, they probably did not live to tell about it. I would like to think there were a lot of Shindlers who saved as many Jews as he could. (or so we are told).
[In Marcy’s latest post she states there are indications Holder is leaning toward a special prosecutor for the torture.]
Of course there were. The average German non Jew was just a powerless pawn as were the 600,000 Jews who lived in Germany. Here is the story of one man who tried to stop Hitler..Dietrich Bonhoeffer. No, he didn’t live. There are youtube clips about him. In the clips you will briefly see “Hitler’s chief of intelligence, Reinhardt Gehlen, who became a U.S. Army general by act of Congress and his job was intelligence for the United States. And almost no break in service — he was a German general right up to a certain day and then all of a sudden he was an American general. ” That is what makes the Nuremberg Trials a bit of a farce. A case of selective prosecution while other war criminals were brought to America and they soon became the CIA…courtesy of your favorite brothers..’g’.

Blue, did you just have to set my hair on fire with the name of Reinhardt Gehlen?? and “your favorite brothers”?? [just kidding back at you]
In trying to understand why those German war criminals were rescued by the OSS and smuggled into the US, it leads me back to Kissinger, interpreter for Allan Dulles.
I can dimly perceive the contributing factors in the case of the Dulles brothers – their father was a Presby minister. As a middle-aged adult I tried to become one of them, but it was the presumption of being of “the elect” who are predestined to lead that caused my departure.
I need some really good info on the background of Kissinger, prior to the time he became interpreter for Allan Dulles. Was it that he had to save these Meister Criminals in order to ‘read’ the books of evil contained in each of their minds in order to beat them at their own game? In so doing, he has succeeded, IMO, and has become the Grand Meister of Criminals. His old body seems to increase in size to accommodate that ego swollen by each public appearance and official recognition of his “superior” intellect and wisdom. And now he is special adviser to the president, and may be the real source of the poison which Obama is ‘drinking’. [my thoughts to consider at this point in time; open to change.]
Among your bag of links are there some on the early life of Kissinger?
Not at the moment..off I go into cyberspace. Giggle..just knew you’d like the brothers comment.
“Dr. Kissinger was born in Fuerth, Germany, on May 27, 1923, came to the United States in 1938, and was naturalised a United States citizen on June 19, 1943.
From 1943 to 1946 Dr. Kissinger served in the U.S. Army Counter Intelligence Corps and from 1946 to 1949 was a captain in the Military Intelligence Reserve. “

The original covert op overseers were replaced by the 40 Commission.
*****************
“Oversight of covert operations was brought under the control of the National Security Council by the creation of the Planning Coordination Group in 1954.
The Planning Coordination Group was created by President Eisenhower’s Presidential Directive 5412/1 on March 15, 1954. The group, initially, was headed by Special Assistant to the President for Foreign Affairs, Nelson Rockefeller.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/40_Committee
“In these pages, I’ve found it essential to allude frequently to the “40 Committee,” the semi-clandestine body of which Henry Kissinger the chairman between 1969 and 1976. One does not need to picture some giant, octopus-like organization at the center of a web of conspiracy; however, it is important to know that there was a committee that maintained ultimate supervision over United States covert actions overseas (and, possibly, at home)during this period.
Whenever any major U.S. covert undertaking occurred, between the years 1969 and 1976, Henry Kissinger may be at least presumed to have had direct knowledge of, and responsibility for, it. If he claims that he did not, then he is claiming not to have been doing a job to which he clung with great bureaucratic tenacity. And whether or not he cares to accept the responsibility, the accountability is inescapably his. “

” While attending City College of New York, in 1943, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, trained at Clemson College in South Carolina, and became a German interpreter for the 970th Counter Intelligence Corps. He thus achieved the rank of sergeant. Following the war, he remained in Europe as a civilian instructor at the European Command Intelligence School, Camp King. “

Blue, been studying & bookmarking info at your last link here at #24. Excellent refs – some info I had studied before, some new. Thanks, as always and again and again.
I feel as though someone has dumped into one pile about 5 boxes of 1000-piece puzzles and that I’m laboriously trying to form the pictures without any box tops.
Where is the Act of Congress that made Gehlen an American general officer to be found?
Neither your link nor my slothful efforts have brought it forth.
Blue, just watched the video of Kissinger at your link here at #29. I highly recommend it to all. I’d seen/read bits and pieces but this ties together all his devious, dirty lies and acts. He has surely done his best to rid the world of what he terms, “the useless eaters”.
Probably somewhere in here.

“The CIA and Nazi War Criminals
Washington D.C., February 4, 2005 – Today the National Security Archive posted the CIA’s secret documentary history of the U.S government’s relationship with General Reinhard Gehlen, the German army’s intelligence chief for the Eastern Front during World War II. At the end of the war, Gehlen established a close relationship with the U.S. and successfully maintained his intelligence network (it ultimately became the West German BND) even though he employed numerous former Nazis and known war criminals. The use of Gehlen’s group, according to the CIA history, Forging an Intelligence Partnership: CIA and the Origins of the BND, 1945-49, was a “double edged sword” that “boosted the Warsaw Pact’s propaganda efforts” and “suffered devastating penetrations by the KGB.” [See Volume 1: Introduction, p. xxix] “

Quite a few million of them…sad but true.
One box would overwhelm me..’g’. Never ever had the patience for puzzles even with box tops.
well, children, gather round Granny’s rocking chair and I’ll tell you of the olden times back when kids had time to be bored…
Thanks,bb, that link was one of the sites I went through before asking you. Nothing I saw there affirms that Gehlen was made as American general.
The idea is so outrageous in so many ways that I have to see something solid to believe it.
I’ll look some more, but if you ever see something to back it up, beyond somebody just saying so, please let us know.
See the attached 2007 report to Congress (specific reference to Gehlen on pg 27 of 156 @ lower right hand paragraph):

Thank you, but I downloaded and page 27 doesn’t seem to add anything relevant. What did I miss?
