After he appeared in Lunsford’s ad, Pina said, a McConnell campaign representative asked him to write a letter asking both campaigns to drop any ads featuring him. McConnell’s campaign had already edited its first ad to drop Pina after the Lunsford ad.
Pina said the McConnell emissary showed up at his house unannounced, accompanied by a notary public. He said they later asked him to meet them at a restaurant to have a drink. Pina said he declined. Pina said he also received calls from McConnell campaign representatives. It got to the point, he said, that he quit answering his home phone when the caller ID showed a call coming from Kentucky.
