It looked to me like the idea was to give the Party a big platform for their message, plus they have three hours to fill. They seem to want him to succeed.

Why the Party puts such an ignorant man out there is a little harder to figure out.

It is a weird racial message to send. On one hand the Party puts forth a black man in a very prominent spot, then they pick a guy who makes it sound like a total pack of fools. (Did you catch his recent apology?)

I think this might be an underhanded way to distance themselves from the total collapse of their party. When people look back at this, they will see a black man in charge. Setting up a fall guy is one of their regular Party activities.

If he makes Joe look smarter that might just reflect reality, Joe is one of the smarter ones they’ve got.

For awhile it seemed that Rs picked incompetent Blacks for important positions in order to make Ds criticize a member of a group that would normally vote D. Steele doesn’t seem to fit that mold, and your hypotheses that he will be scapegoated for the fall of the party seems as good as any.

Between the evening of July 19th, 2001, and the following morning, a young, vigorous political aide named Lori Klausutis died alone and under mysterious circumstances in the Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, offices of Congressman Joseph Scarborough.

The attending medical examiner, Dr. Michael Berkland, stated in his report that she had fainted and fallen, hitting her head on a desk. This, he said, broke her skull in a 7-inch transverse fracture running from right temple to left, pulverized a region of bone the size of a small marble inside the skull behind the right ear and caused a fist-sized hematoma, or effusion of blood, gathering below the dura mater of the left side of the skull. There was also a contusion, or bruise, on the back of the head. Bloody foam, signifying a death of slow asphyxiation, bubbled up from her lungs into her mouth. Just for good measure, Dr. Berkland claimed that Lori’s heart had also failed.

Wow. All that from a single fainting fall onto a desk.

But wait, there’s more:

Berkland’s supervisor, Dr. Gary Cumberland, did not notice the internal contradiction between the claim of heart failure and the formation of a massive hematoma. Nor did he remark on Berkland’s claim, which contradicts the medical literature, that the hematoma could only have been formed by Lori’s head striking an object, not vice versa.

The Chairman of the Medical Examiners’ Commission for the state of Florida, Dr. Stephen Nelson, was well aware of the shortcomings in Berkland’s record, having recommended that Berkland be suspended for failing to report to Florida that his license was in danger of revocation in Missouri. Nelson knew that Berkland had been fired by the state of Missouri for failing to complete autopsy reports. According to his Missouri supervisor’s deposition, Berkland failed to perform 28 autopsy reports for homicides alone in 1994-5. The total number of incomplete cases may have been over 140. Ultimately the cause of death could not be determined for several cases.

Nelson also learned at the time of the Klausutis case that Berkland had falsified his curriculum vitae. More seriously, he had falsified autopsy reports and mishandled organs taken from the dead. In one particularly tragic case, one that irreparably traumatized the surviving family members, Berkland removed the brain of a young woman from his office and placed it in the back of his car. It had to be rescued by an agent of the family’s attorney.

Oh, and did I mention that Lori regularly ran and participated in 8K fun runs? If she was going to have a heart attack (much less one than caused an evil desk to give her multiple severe head injuries), how come she didn’t have one during one of the fun runs?

I suspect the party elders are really getting buyer’s remorse with Steele. If putting him on national teevee so he can make a dang fool of hisself helps justify his sooner, rather than later retirement, I can see why Steele would be encouraged to go on Scar’s show.

Things have really taken off for Scar. Many people I know watch Morning Joe. They like to say “Morning Joe”. It rolls off the tongue. Some seem to infer that they are real intellectuals for watching Morning Joe.

Rachel tried to start talking when Buchanan was on and he shouted her down. The hosts have a schedule to keep and that segment ran out of time.

I think Steele is trying to make the point that Negros don’t belong in politics and hopes some of that opinion rubs off on Obama. He seems to be acting in the way that Republicans conceive of Blacks (ignorant but bribable with fried chicken and potato salad).

Plus when things on the Republican agenda are defeated they can always blame their boy that tried hard was not really a true core American. Their defeats will stem from hiring the wrong sort of help and thus multi-culturism is the enemy.

To me, the headline asks and answers the question.

There is not a single journalist on Morning Joe. The regulars are political opinionists except for Mika who is a news READER. Ask her what she does, and “News Reader” is what she’ll tell you. A complete waste of a Williams education as far as I can tell. Joe is an overbearing self-righteous conservative propagandist frat boy. I haven’t determined what fuels his mean streak. Mika is a reserved concern troll who does little to temper Joe’s tirades. Why she travels on his book signing tour is beyond me. I hope he compensates her for it. Mike Barnicle is Morning Joe’s common man with street smarts (not so much really), a Boston accent, and an almost shape-shifting ability to turn himself into knots verbally formulating a question. Did I mention he used to plagiarize his column in the Boston Globe? Folksy. Check. But seriously the entire 90 minutes is propaganda and good ole yuck yuck, except for the occasional guest that has a sense of propriety about news versus opinion, and analysis versus propaganda. Joe is a slippery dick, keep an eye on him.

Let’s put the blame where it really belongs and stop muddling the issue with the freak show on the tube. NBC is a single component in a much larger corporate scheme with loads of vested interests. Too much time is spent of disinformation, misdirection and virulent stupidity on MSNBC programs in order to present the illusion of “balance.” Hey—if it looks like a fox and runs like a fox . . . Certain issues—a public option for health care, for instance—do not require the sort of balance they’re getting on cable “news” unless the point is to keep the public option from getting off the ground. In MSNBC’s case, it’s transparent that getting money from big pharma—commercials are the real content of these so called “news” programs—is more important than preventing this country from keeling over. Same with environmental issues and Escalades. Just follow the money.
