State bar complaints have been filed against twelve Bush administration lawyers involved in the authorization and sanctioning of torture by the United States of America, including two attorneys, Alberto Gonzales and John Yoo, whose disbarments I have long been advocating. [A complete list of the grieved attorneys - with links to the complaints - is included at the end of this post].

- About Me:
- I am a licensed attorney who’s tired of reading about the unethical conduct and actions of attorneys, including Alberto Gonzales, Kyle Sampson, Monica Goodling, Hans von Spakosky, Ted Stevens, Lisa Murkowski and many others, who work in and for our government. News accounts of their actions in the US Attorney firings, the voter fraud matters, the Alaskan bribery and land deals and other matters present instance after instance of ethical lapses that range from violations of laws to conflicts of interest. To my knowledge, there is no organized effort to address these violations as grievable offenses. The Grievance Project is my effort to do exactly that.

Update 03-30-09 Re Sen. Vitter’s Missing Law License |
| By: GrievanceProject Monday March 30, 2009 12:17 pm |
Although David B. Vitter received his juris doctorate from Tulane University Law School, was admitted to the Louisiana State Bar Association, practiced law in Louisiana and was an adjunct professor of law at Tulane, he is not listed in the Louisiana State Bar Association Membership Directory Active Member Search, Martindale.com or anywhere else as currently being licensed to practice law in Louisiana or any other state. It appears that Mr. Vitter is no longer admitted to practice law in Louisiana but I have been unable to confirm whether Mr. Vitter has ever been admitted to the LSBA and, if so, why he is no longer listed as an active member of the LSBA.
Senator Vitter, Why Did You Lose Your License to Practice Law? |

Update to my post last week regarding the revocation or loss of Senator David Vitter’s license to practice law.
Is Sen. David Vitter Licensed to Practice Law? |
| By: GrievanceProject Tuesday March 17, 2009 10:54 am |
According to SourceWatch and Wikipedia, Senator David Vitter (R-LA) has a law degree from Tulane University and practiced law before beginning his political career. A search of Martindale.com, the Lousiana State Bar Association Membership Directory Active Member Search and the state bar associations produces no evidence that Sen. Vitter is licensed to practice law in any state. However, I have been unable to find any report or other factual account that explains why he appears to no longer be licensed to practice law.
Hunton & Williams replies to my questions regarding partner D. Kyle Sampson’s leave. Sort of. |
| By: GrievanceProject Monday March 16, 2009 9:18 pm |
Last week, I posted a diary regarding David Addington’s inability to find a job and D. Kyle Sampson’s leave of absence last December as a partner at Hunton & Williams. Included in that post was an email – to which I haven’t yet received a reply – that I sent to Eleanor Kerlow, Senior Public Relations Manager, Hunton & Williams, regarding the firm’s employment of Mr. Sampson. However, Ms. Kerlow, or someone else from Hunton & Williams, did stop by my blog the other day to read my post.
Chickens Come Home to Roost as Employers Shun Toxic Bush Lawyers |

The NYT reports that David Addington, Dick Cheney’s Dick Cheney, joins Alberto Gonzales, who has been looking for a job since 2007, and, via WaPo, D. Kyle Sampson, who took a leave of absence from his partnership at Hunton & Williams “pending his admission to the D.C. bar[,]” in ranks of the unemployed.
President of Alabama State Bar replies to charges of misconduct by Bar member US Attorney Leura Canary |
| By: GrievanceProject Tuesday January 6, 2009 8:09 am |
I copied the President of the Alabama State Bar, J. Mark White, on an e-mail I sent to the General Counsel of the Alabama State Bar in which I detailed how Alabama State Bar member and United States Attorney Leura Garrett Canary is unfit to practice law. When he received a second e-mail from me regarding Ms. Canary being named one of the country’s worst prosecutors for 2008, Mr. White, a self-proclaimed champion of justice, asked not for more information but instead asked that I stop writing to him. His entire e-mail and my reply follow.
Alberto Gonzales and Leura Canary named to Top Ten Prosecutors list for 2008 |
| By: GrievanceProject Saturday December 6, 2008 3:28 pm |
Bad Prosecutors, published by the Bennett Law Firm, of Houston, Texas, has compiled its annual list of the ten worst prosecutors who will each receive a Certificate of Under Achievment [sic]. This year marks Mrs. Canary’s debut to the List, but Mr. Gonzales is now a deserving 2-time honoree. The Bennett Law Firm does not plan to wait as long to release the 10 worst prosecutors for 2009 so continue to send in your nominations.
Why does Leura Canary, US Attorney MDAL, still have a license to practice law? |
| By: GrievanceProject Wednesday December 3, 2008 9:23 am |
Leura Garrett Canary was nominated by Pres. George W. Bush to be the United States Attorney for the Middle District of Alabama. Since assuming this position in September 2001, Mrs. Canary has failed to adhere to even the most basic tenets of professional conduct required of her by her membership in the Alabama State Bar. The following analysis establishes that Mrs. Canary has violated her obligations under the Alabama Rules of Professional Conduct by her continued participation in the prosecution of Gov. Don Siegelman after her supposed recusal therefrom and that her conduct raises a substantial question as to her honesty, trustworthiness and fitness to practice law.
It’s Election Eve and I’m going to have to take (the generic equivalent of) Benadryl to be able to sleep tonight. |

Too excited to sleep on Election Eve? I’m going to use (the generic equivalent of) Benadryl to sleep tonight at caffeine to stay up tomorrow night.
