Dere's no guy livin' dat knows Brooklyn t'roo an' t'roo, because it'd take a guy a lifetime just to find his way aroun' duh goddam town.
How difficult could it possibly be to eliminate what Americans call "corruption" in Afghanistan? Eliminating corruption is everywhere and always a simple two-step process: Step #1. Create a self-examining bureaucracy with lifetime job-stability and a university-educated bourgeoisie to staff it, and then...
Tax-cutters won every Presidential election since 1968, and likewise even 35% of voters who identify themselves as liberals agree that "Government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem."
And what was the biggest story in 1968?
The candidate who most credibly promises the lowest level of taxes has won every presidential election in the last 40 years.
"You could see these little figures scurrying, and the explosion going off, and when the smoke cleared there was just rubble and charred stuff," a former C.I.A. officer who was based in Afghanistan after September 11th says of one attack. (He watched the carnage on a small monitor in the field.)
Human beings running for cover are such a common sight that they have inspired a slang term: "squirters."
"Every type of waste imaginable was and is burned on these pits, including trucks, tires, lithium battery, Styrofoam, paper, rubber, petroleum-oil-lubricant products, metals, hydraulic fluids, munitions boxes, medical waste, biohazard materials (including human corpses), medical supplies (including those used during smallpox inoculations), paints, solvents, asbestos insulation, items containing pesticides, polyvinyl chloride pipes, animal carcasses, dangerous chemicals and hundreds of thousands of plastic water bottles," the lawsuit claims.

I'm reposting my class-war-from-the-bottom-up-instead-of-the-trickle-down-class-war-that-Democrats-and-Republicans-have-been running-against-most-of-us-since-1980 video on the theory that a temporary glitch with Youtube prevented it from appearing before.
This video is more like a political appliance than the sort of art I usually make, and it’s just another more or less desperate attempt to exercise even an infinitesimal (but nevertheless non-zero) influence on the course of events, a fantastical ambition which many of us progressive bloggers share… But with 34,000 more American soldiers on the way to Afghanistan, huge profits for Goldman Sachs and their Wall Street brethren, double-digit unemployment, climate negotiations in the toilet, and waves of foreclosures reminiscent of the Great Depression rolling over formerly prosperous zones like Marin County… It’s time to admit that our project just ain’t happening, and try something else. So I made a music video blog, entirely DIY, and it was a very educational experience.
