I am looking for positive things Obama might say in his Nobel Prize speech to indicate that he realizes that Afghanistan is a Quagmire. I am especially hoping for some kind of olive branch to the entire Taliban. One thing I think he clearly won’t say or do is what the peace movement suggested, before his 30,000 troop escalation speech, is to withdraw to strategic areas of Afghanistan and fighting from there. This I think would only tend to invigorate the Taliban and maybe al Qaeda as well

- About Me:
- I'm retired in Philadelphia. Non religious but there seems to be a life force that I see as more personal than is usually expressed. I was raised a Quaker (common with Christian Jewish intermarriage back them) But my father was a total pacifist and during World War II, at the time that being so was difficult. Upbringing included father trying not to get physical, yet still defend us kids from my harsh stepmother until she got her citizenship papers, after which they could get divorced. Been involved in peace issues since the anti-fallout shelter protests through Vietnam and Iraq. I wrote "Greedy Little Squirrels and Lifeboat ethics,” 1977, when the Moonies were coming to America and got heavily harassed by them. I also think bin Laden is extremely dangerous like the leader of a barroom brawl, who has been manipulating this country into using the US to get Muslims angry enough to join his suicidal permanent war group. Before 9/11 young Muslims rebelled by wearing by covering their hair a little less than expected and at least winking at each other, now he changed rebellion into being militancy. The Northern Alliance would have been legitimately in charge long ago had he not baited the US into entering Afghanistan. Obama is making a mistake in my mind with how to stop bin Laden’s dream of permanent war in a divided world but less of a mistake than most anyone else would. If due to currency collapses from out ever more expensive weapons the US stops fighting al Qaeda, then other counties will. If it ends up being Iran, the Sunni Shiite divide will be enormous. Al Qaeda is already convinced that the atheist China is a serious enemy, http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=al9wM3k5zjLQ and the Russians have fought for brutally and inadvertently convinced far more Muslims than the US did that they considered Islam itself to be the enemy. I never stopped supporting Jimmy Carter when everyone turned on him and I support Obama as well, but think he will have to use a lot more persuasion and less force if they aren’t going to succeed at bankrupting us. However Obama has tried less force and al Qaeda has started to respond in kind trying to limit the victim’s in the way of their primary attacks. http://www.phillyimc.org/en/user/richardkanepa http://capitolhillblue.com/blog/2419 http://www.opednews.com/populum/diarypage.php?did=5163 http://consortiumblog.blogspot.com/2008/10/logic-of-al-qaedas-mccain-choice.html?showComment=1225253700000#c7899683072517641995 Back up reference to above link, http://www.consortiumnews.com/2009/082209a.html RichardKane.blogspot.com Richard Kane (Philadelphia) (More information if you google RichardKanePA

The Peace Prize & the War Dilemma |
| By: RichardKanePA Monday December 7, 2009 3:24 pm |
The peace prize ceremony is coming up and more disappointment of Obama for peace there, but I still think he is the best hope available, and remember history where Nixon had a secret plan supposedly to end the war. Will a Dick Cheney have a secret plan that he will suggest needs to include ignoring rights and civil liberties? The question is “not how we can improve things soon, but how can we prevent things from getting a lot worse? Enclosed are some suggestions I hope readers have others.

Backing Obama but not the War |
| By: RichardKanePA Tuesday December 1, 2009 7:05 am |
I believe Obama has good reasons for wanting to fight the war, but they are not good enough, especially since the Americans who support the war, support it to oppose what they see as backward and harsh Muslim values which angers the Muslim world. He is making a mistake not being an evil man.
Maybe if when Johnson started escalating, if the people who loved Johnson when the war started and kept quiet would have instead loudly asserted their support for Johnson, while opposing the war, history would be different. Let’s today those of us who both love Obama and oppose the war speak up.
Vicious smears threaten US’s future, but suddenly there is hope |
| By: RichardKanePA Thursday November 26, 2009 12:17 pm |
The hate smears and polarization keeps getting worse, but there is change in the opposite direction finally Sarah Palin and Hillary offer to have a casual chat and tea all the way up to th ADL condemning Glenn Beck’s hate mongering to anti-Castro Cubans condemning death threats against Cubans who disagree.
The Fort Hood Debate Could Change if there is Another Incident |
| By: RichardKanePA Monday November 16, 2009 5:55 am |
In response to Fort Hood, Rightist screaming liberals are ignoring the problem and Progressive screaming that the right is stirring up hate is nothing new. However after 9/11 a Canadian Muslim legislator noted that young kids were radicalized, and spawned programs including in the US and Europe for Muslim kids to learn about the entire Koran, instead of al Qaeda repeated sometimes out of context quotes, that Islam Haters also repeat. Let’s organize now, even if the next incident will be internally desperate kids like at Columbine High.
Smears not partisanship is the problem |
| By: RichardKanePA Friday November 13, 2009 9:35 pm |
People with strong opinions are being smeared and fired.
Michael Moore, Sarah Palin, Van Jones and Marc Lamont Hill are unusual in that they clearly speak their mind, and aren’t joining the efforts of others to pour perfume on themselves while hurling bad tastes and odors at what they don’t like instead of explaining why.
One mass killing doesn’t have to mean a downward slide between local Muslims & non-Muslims |

Muslims fit in, in America, far more than in Europe. America stopped bragging about being a melting pot, but nevertheless it is still sometimes true. Employers sometime prize honest workers and customers can look for honest sales people. But there is a concerted effort from people from several political persuasions to change this. This effort needs to be countered. One terrible incident rather than many could mean we are fortunate that ouine. Elsewhere, David Horowitz and Tigre Hill and rewriting Black Panther, and Mumia abu-Jamal history to imply that the Panthers were the kind of people to snipe at police-cars and uniforms, and that Mumia felt empowered by the barrel of a gun, instead of by his endless essays before and after he was accused of murder,

After 9/11, most accused of terror lost most of their Constitutional Rights. If Horowitz gets his way everyone as soon as they were accused of a heinous crime would lose their rights as well, and if Horowitz succeeds we might actually have a future President similar to ex-Vice-President Cheney bragging about infringing Constructional Freedoms. We may not be able to all get along but if we don’t keep trying things might get far worse then theyr culture is so accepting of different ethic and religious groups. Can we keep it this way?
David Horowitz Smears Again, Mumia abu-Jamal the latest person accused of being a terrorist |
| By: RichardKanePA Saturday October 31, 2009 7:39 am |
Mumia people and Muslims are upset with the hate David Horowitz blasts in both directions. His hate references to Muslims are Mumia are amazingly similar, spreading accusations of terrorist at both Mumia and Muslims yet there are two separate movements of oppose Horowitz not one,

Obama – unlike Jimmy Carter – fights the smears Fox News hurls at him |
| By: RichardKanePA Sunday October 25, 2009 3:53 pm |
I unlike most who worked for Obama to become President didn’t chear him as a miracle worker like most hard working Obama supporters did, but expected him to be smeared the way Jimmy Carter. But suddenly Obama began to fight back. No more calling on the Washington Times reporter at a press conference, right after the paper smeared him. But somehow progressives like David Corn are not cheering. Let’s join the President in standing up to the hate campaign against him.
We Lost! We already lost the war in Afghanistan! Not admitting it is a serious mistake! |
| By: RichardKanePA Sunday October 18, 2009 9:38 pm |
Many look at General Stanley McChystal’s grim assessment of the Afghan War, that we might lose in a hurry unless 40,000 thousand more troops are sent in as being superhawky, but he never implied that there is a good chance that the US would win even if sent. I want to interpret it as meaning victory is anything but certain no matter how many US troops get sent. In-other-words another reason to oppose the war.
