Predatory practices that used to be detrimental to third world countries have become standard to corporate welfare seekers from U.S. coffers. Tax shelters are their answer to the benefits, and concessions, they’ve been given by our government. Now it’s time to end that approach, and bring profits back where they belong. The taxpayer doesn’t have an obligation of charity toward the businesses made possible by hard work here at home.

Saturday Art: Gaudi’s Habitat |
| By: Ruth Calvo Saturday October 23, 2010 12:10 am |
A truly beautiful concept occurred to Antoni Gaudi. He originated a housing project. It now is Guell Park. If all of us could live in such an atmosphere, no doubt the world would be a much better place.
Strange Bedfellows Indeed; Family Values Deviants |
| By: Ruth Calvo Friday October 22, 2010 10:35 am |
Without standards to violate, the thrill of getting by with stomping on your own public image, would it be so thrilling? I leave that for those with degrees in behavior sciences that I don’t have.
Xenophobia Is The New Superpower Heroin(e) |
| By: Ruth Calvo Sunday October 17, 2010 1:00 am |
Zenophobia is ugly and it produces irrational behavior toward fellow beings, too often with tragic consequences. Out leaders would serve their countries better by inspiring us toward better behavior instead of falling in with the goose steppers that thrive on bad feelings and the rabble they produce.

Celery has magical properties, some that I’ve been taught from childhood.
Defrauding 101: Dirty Little Secrets |

The sickness of a system that gives every advantage to the profiteers off of the unfortunate victims cannot be overemphasized. While all of us want to make a profit, only the psychosomatically disordered really want to make it by ruining investors, even to the global level they’ve reached now. We all have a very great interest in putting back into place the regulations that prevent the criminal element from the favoritism shown under existing law.
Saturday Art: Mnajdra Temples of Malta |
| By: Ruth Calvo Saturday October 16, 2010 4:00 am |
The temples are somewhat distant for us, but worth the trip. Of course, a bit of Mediterranean is always good to visit, and the scenery is wonderful. The ancient sites of solar devotion are the earliest sort of building, and show beginnings of attempts to structure stone into habitations and decorative art. In an age of technological wonders, sometimes it’s nice to see how far we have come.
Global Works Day: What Are You Planting? |
| By: Ruth Calvo Sunday October 10, 2010 12:25 am |
In the feverish political climate, at election time, working against climate change can seem like a distant goal, with little opportunity to achieve it. If each of us does something, though, it becomes more achievable.
Saturday Art: The Blue Mosque |
| By: Ruth Calvo Saturday October 9, 2010 4:00 am |
Istanbul, Turkey, has many treasures. The Blue Mosque is one of unique features, and amazing in its beauty. The artwork is mostly that of intricate tile works, a tribute to the religious injunction against portraying personal figures, which would constitute a sort of idolatry.
State Of U.S. Healthcare In Disrepair |
| By: Ruth Calvo Saturday October 9, 2010 1:42 am |
Directly connecting patient care to profits has been counterproductive for U.S. citizens. Like other immoral rightwing ideological demands, for-profit health service has proved to be wrong, and dangerous for those under its sway.
