Rachel Maddow performed another fine public service last night by connecting the dots on the various Fox News stories designed to convince white people to be afraid of blacks and minorities.

As we can all see now, when Fox says jump, the Obama administration asks how high? (Then jumps one inch less and considers it a progressive victory). Is there anyone Obama won’t fire or throw under the bus if Fox asks him to? What if they ask Obama to fire himself? Would he do it? Or would he just fire Biden and say he met them halfway?

After being offered a new job with USDA, Shirley Sherrod told the media she indeed wants to hear from the President, to acquaint him with some realities from her life that he may not understand. So she needs to be convinced that he — the President of the United States — believes in, and will fight for, the principles he claims to hold.

Agriculture Secretary Vilsack issued a statement this a.m. saying he will reconsider the case that led to the forced resignation of Shirley Sherrod, after he and the Obama Administration faced a storm of criticism for their actions.

On Thursday, June 24, 2010, the Obama Justice Department will be arguing against ACORN and the Center for Constitutional Rights in a hearing in the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, in an attempt to uphold the ACORN funding bans passed by Congress in 2009 that were deemed in December, 2009 and March, 2010 to be unConstitutional Bills of Attainder by Federal Judge Nina Gershon of the Eastern District of New York.

The Obama administration has appealed a federal court’s decision to throw out the congressional ban on funding of ACORN, joining with right-wing forces in calumniating the former organization of community organizers.

I don’t know of any similar organization. Yet, when I imagine a logical organization to build in our society, I wind up at ACORN. If ACORN did not exist, in other words, it would be necessary to invent it. All we actually need do is reconstitute it.
