A Utah state Senator has proposed eliminating the 12trh grade as a way to make up the state’s budget shortfall.

As the majority of FDL probably does not live in Nevada, I thought I’d offer this brief recap of the “emergency state-of-the-state” speech that Gov. Jim Gibbons broadcast earlier this evening. Basically he declared that our woes are due to big government, such as over-regulation and teachers’ unions. And tax increases are off the table. So there.

With most states hurting these days, gloomy state budget news often becomes relegated to the background of our attention. But some ugly things are afoot in Nevada.

Nuclear power, biofuels, clean coal: These are the Obama administration’s answers to climate change. The 2011 budget, released this week, promised new loans for the construction of nuclear power plants, and on Wednesday the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), White House, and other departments detailed steps to encourage ethanol and clean coal production.
