“Them That Begin By Burning Books, End By Burning Men.”

By: Tuesday September 7, 2010 9:10 am

Jewish poet Heinrich Heine wrote 190 years ago, Them that begin by burning books, end by burning men.

Has it come to this? Do we, as Christians and as a when-it’s-convenient Christian Nation, hate Islam and Muslims so deeply that we could tolerate, even for a moment, the burning of their most prized book?

By: Wednesday June 16, 2010 8:52 am

Rand Paul, the Republican senate candidate in Kentucky, is a freewheeling libertarian. Instead of getting some fancy board-certification as an ophthalmologist, Paul decided to “go Galt” and make up his own credentials. Paul founded the National Board of Ophthalmology, ostensibly to certify doctors as qualified eye specialists.

By: Friday February 5, 2010 6:23 am

The term “trafficking in children” conjures up the worst of all possible scenarios…bad people taking children away from their families for nefarious purposes, such as the labor or sex trade. But can children be trafficked for religious purposes?

Is it as simple as sharing?

By: Thursday September 10, 2009 4:59 pm

M. Ramsdell

September 2009

Those who have much are often greedy, those who have little always share. Oscar Wilde (1854 – 1900)

I recently was called naïve by a friend who opinion I genuinely value, the worst part is I suspect he is actually correct. I prefer to use the term idealist but this is just splitting hairs. What prompted the exchange and what has got me thinking, is if the world would be a better place if we truly practiced the ideals we were taught as children. Is this even really possible in today’s world? For the purposes of this discussion

I will focus on one of the simplest of values.

I will attempt to make a larger point on the ideal of sharing.
