The hateful, unchristian charlatan who understands he can become richer and a celebrity by threatening to burn Korans has now received a plea from the President of the United States not to endanger our troops by giving al Qaeda another recruiting tool. Meanwhile Obama insists we make our torture practices state secrets.

Jewish poet Heinrich Heine wrote 190 years ago, “Them that begin by burning books, end by burning men.“

Has it come to this? Do we, as Christians and as a when-it’s-convenient Christian Nation, hate Islam and Muslims so deeply that we could tolerate, even for a moment, the burning of their most prized book?

This article explores the Christian Right’s “Westernized” religious worldview and how it plays out in terms of spiritual reality and social justice.

Rand Paul, the Republican senate candidate in Kentucky, is a freewheeling libertarian. Instead of getting some fancy board-certification as an ophthalmologist, Paul decided to “go Galt” and make up his own credentials. Paul founded the National Board of Ophthalmology, ostensibly to certify doctors as qualified eye specialists.

Republicans and Conservatives have a new-old hero: Newt Gingrich. Amazingly, Gingrich is being seriously discussed as one of their candidates for a 2012 Presidential election run. Conservatives everywhere hold Gingrich up as a shining example of Conservative principles and family values. So, what do those principles and values look like?

Va. Del. Bob Marshall’s recent remarks echo the anti-choice theme for women: Do not forget that your reproductive and sexual capacities are wholly-owned and operated by the Christian right.

I recently was called naïve by a friend who opinion I genuinely value, the worst part is I suspect he is actually correct. I prefer to use the term idealist but this is just splitting hairs. What prompted the exchange and what has got me thinking, is if the world would be a better place if we truly practiced the ideals we were taught as children. Is this even really possible in today’s world? For the purposes of this discussion

I will focus on one of the simplest of values.

I will attempt to make a larger point on the ideal of sharing.
