Why Washington is More Right-Wing Than the Rest of the Country

By: Monday June 28, 2010 2:55 am

We recently had John Avlon on the program and he is a devout “centrist.” That used to mean that you were somewhere on the political spectrum between the left and the right. It now means that you set up false equivalencies between the left and the right and call everything even no matter what.

For what reason should the NRA be exempted from the DISCLOSE Act?

By: Friday June 18, 2010 9:00 am

When Members of Congress sell out to big business, they usually come up with a reason to justify their sellout that’s something other than the equivalent of saying, “We’re their bitches.” For example, we don’t need to escalate the war in Afghanistan to feed the military industrial complex, we need to fight this no-end-in-sight war because blowing up civilians half a world away “keeps us safe.”

That’s why I’m puzzled by the objections corporatists Blue Dog Democrats in Congress have with the DISCLOSE Act. This thin veil of rational reasoning that’s usually present is missing – in every article I’ve read no reason has been given to exempt the National Rifle Association (a notorious right-wing money-laundering scheme) from the bill other than, “We need their money for our elections.” There’s usually at least a spokesman who will toe the corporate line and give some kind of made-up reason. But here, none.

By: Thursday June 17, 2010 1:00 pm

Joining the four Senators who spoke out earlier this week, yesterday evening 32 Representatives sent a letter circulated by Rep. Jay Inslee to Julius Genachowski, Chairman of the FCC, praising the FCC’s moves to protect the Internet and net neutrality by reclassifying broadband.

Tell Me He Didn’t Say That

It’s hard to determine who is the biggest flipping tool in the giant toolshed that is the GOP/Media Complex. But Chris Matthews is definitely up there.

Enjoy It While You Can, Blanche

By: Wednesday June 9, 2010 9:00 am

Hey, Blanche? All the corporate donors who were your best buds for the last few months? You can kiss them goodbye — now that they’ve ensured that a corporatist is going to win in November no matter what, they’re going to throw their weight behind the person they actually want. And that person isn’t just a halfway-Republican like you, but a real one.

How Bipartisanship Hurts the Country

By: Tuesday February 2, 2010 8:31 am

We have the worst media in the world. They almost never tell you what’s really going on, especially in politics. They have been pushing this idea that bipartisanship is a great thing to be sought after. Of course, they are aided and abetted by President Obama and the Democratic Party. But it’s not their job to parrot people in power. The reality is so-called bipartisanship is the worst possible thing for the American people.

How Progressives Can Move Obama to the Left

By: Friday December 25, 2009 1:58 pm

There are many debates among progressives now on the true nature of Barack Obama. Did he mean anything he said on the campaign trail? Is he really a progressive? Did he ever mean to challenge the status quo or was he using the word “change” as a campaign gimmick? Is he just a corporatist like most other politicians?
