Peace activists sent a letter of protest to the Democratic National Committee in response to Brad Woodhouse’s attack on Michael Steele over Steele’s criticism of the Afghanistan war. A key effect of Woodhouse’s attack is the chilling of Republican dissent on the Afghanistan war – Republican dissent that war critics need in order to end it. The letter attempts to counteract that effect and to pressure the DNC to not engage in this sort of attack on war critics in the future.

Bob Schieffer: Reporter or Russert-Like Sphinx? |
| By: Teddy Partridge Sunday May 9, 2010 1:08 pm |
Bob Schieffer is sitting on a scoop he needs to share with the world, unless his rules for ‘off-the-record’ are the same as the late Tim Russert: everything is always off-the-record unless the newsmaker specifically grants ‘permission to use.’

At best Wasserman Schultz was ignorant about the validity of the Public Option passage through Reconciliation. More likely she was disingenuous in waving off O’Donnell’s questions and deliberately and not mentioning the 122 of her colleagues who signed on to the Polis/Pingree letter asking Harry Reid the same thing that Senate is now asking, i.e. to pass the Public Option through reconciliation. The only plausible explanation of her behavior I find is that she has been carrying water for Rahm – without regard to her own colleagues. Indirectly the water she carries quenches the thirst of the Corporate patrons.

We had a very frank conversation with Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz on The Young Turks. We talked about whether it makes sense to reach out to Republicans or if it’s a poor strategy, we talked about corporatism inside the Democratic Party and we talked about the state of the health care bill in Congress.

Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Shultz describes the House Democratic leadership’s efforts to include their GOP colleagues in the process of crafting a stimulus bill, and how that effort was rejected. She also schools John King on the Constitutional system requiring a conference between the House and Senate. Should have paid more attention to Schoolhouse Rock, John.
