It was an odd sequence of events.

First, on Thursday, the Senate Armed Services Committee passed a bill to stop the Obama administration from purchasing a new prison that could house detainees now at the prison camp at Guantanamo Bay under lock and key here in the United States.

An article posted Friday on the website for The Times of London points out that Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, former Chief of Staff to Secretary of State Colin Powell, has submitted a sworn statement confirming that President George W. Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld all knew that innocent civilians were detained at Guantanamo. I have found a Joint Chiefs publication that outlines the official policy under which this long term detention and interrogation of civilians is authorized.

Andersen, a suit brought against Former Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld will be allowed to be brought forward. The civil suit, D. Vance and N. Ertel v. Donald Rumsfeld, United States of America and Unidentified Agents will now proceed to discovery and trial.
