Dr. Tiller’s Crucifixion and Resurrection

By: Tuesday June 1, 2010 6:44 am

I recently had the honor of addressing a group of abortion providers on “Resurrecting Our Moral Center.” I do not think it was coincidental that less than a year after Tiller’s murder, we were talking about resurrection. God, how much we miss him.

Anatomy of a FACE Act violation

By: Monday May 10, 2010 9:23 am

Kansas has long been a hotbed of anti-choice protests stoked by a hard-right political climate and conservative religious views. But the prairie state is now home-base for the most radical elements of the movement.

Misogyny: The Real Root of Opposition to Late Abortion

By: Monday April 5, 2010 6:45 am

The Right to Privacy and the Right to Speak Out

By: Thursday March 4, 2010 6:47 am

Feminists stand firm on never telling women what they should do, allowing them full choice about their bodies and lives.  But we need to better support women when they speak about their experiences.

Where Does It End? Fight Club For Jesus

By: Tuesday February 2, 2010 9:00 am

I am not a fan of anger. While it can motivate in the short-term, it can very easily become like a fire, which has to consume more and more fuel to keep burning hotly. This makes it a dangerous tool to use to motivated people. Not that this stops anyone from taking the plunge and lighting fires of discontent, especially in the Tea Party movement and the Religious Right who occupy the same section of a Venn diagram of the conservatives in this country.

On the one hand, there is the sense of victimization that is required to stoke the anger, on the other there is the need to be tough and bad-assed to take on the supposed oppressors. We have seen the one in the so-called “War on Christmas” and we are seeing the other with the conservative need to change the perception of Jesus.

You may be aware of the Conservative Bible project that Conservapeadia is running. They are re-writing the Bible to fit their ideology, based on these ten principals:

As of 2009, there is no fully conservative translation of the Bible which satisfies the following ten guidelines:[3]
1. Framework against Liberal Bias: providing a strong framework that enables a thought-for-thought translation without corruption by liberal bias

2. Not Emasculated: avoiding unisex, “gender inclusive” language, and other feminist distortions; preserve many references to the unborn child (the NIV deletes these)

Extremism and Suffering Children

By: Monday June 15, 2009 6:43 am

What does a shootout at the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C., the confessions of a Khmer Rouge jailer and the murder of a Kansas medical doctor have in common? The answer is “children,” and how they suffer from being targeted and used by extremists to advance their own hateful agendas.
