“Is the Mexican Army the Biggest Cartel of All?” (paraphrased from Charles Bowden’s We Bring Fear) |

Mexico is in trouble. 6000 Mexicans violently died during 2008. Six thousand! The hapless Mexican citizenry is endangered by a horrifying lawlessness of the drug cartels. The hapless Mexican citizenry is endangered by a horrifying, at times, lawlessness of its army, too. This is the slippery slope of a republic unbalanced by the “shock and awe” of a militarized statehood, having its human rights steadily sacrificed by the terrorist ways of its “official protectors” as well as its original enemies. (BTW: Does this not make you think of a country much closer to home?)

Mexico has more than swine flu to worry about. U.S. enables the drug cartels with money and weaponry.

In 2008, a disturbing trend developed in mainstream media regarding Mexico. While Mexico’s President Felipe Calderón began his aggression against the Cartels roughly two years ago, the resulting uptick in violence was of no real interest to mainstream media. But when the U.S. Joint Forces Command Joint Operating Environment (JOE 2008) was issued in November, 2008, and declared Mexico and Pakistan nations in danger of a “rapid and sudden collapse,” mainstream news outlets and certain politicians began broadcasting fears of violence spilling over into the US.

With a Neighbor Like the US, Mexico Doesn’t Need Any Other Enemies, Part 2: Shock and Awe |
| By: libbyliberal Tuesday March 17, 2009 1:09 am |
The US is considering deploying National Guard to protect our border with Mexico. It is also committing to helping the Mexican military fight the well armed and wealthy drug cartels, which, by the way have black market US weaponry and enormous cash from American drug customers. Another quagmire?

The US exports 90% of the weaponry now being used by drug cartels in Mexico to terrorize the citizenry.

This is a re-post from February 24, 2009. In Mexico there now exists along our 2000-mile southern border a more menacing quagmire than Afghanistan.
