For a lot of reasons it makes all the sense in the world to start a movement now to Ban Glenn Beck from Ground Zero. I hope you’ll join me. So, if you see him anywhere around there, tell him to “Get! Get!”

The response to developers and supporters with connections to the Muslim community in New York City, who wish to construct an Islamic cultural center that many now refer to as the “Ground Zero Mosque,” has a toxicity that is repulsive and entirely objectionable. Unfortunately, Democrats have shown an utter lack of leadership and continue to fail to confront the right wing’s whipping up of hysterical patriotism that has translated into fear and hatred toward Muslims.

It’s an amazing thing to have a Senator, after I moved to Oregon, who makes me proud on a regular basis. This just didn’t happen that often where I used to live.

More heat than light is being generated as the media shines the spotlight on this emotional issue. The fact that defenders of both sides of this issue span the political spectrum points to the fact that some factor other than ideology is operating here.

Howard Dean’s compromised stance on the Manhattan Cordoba House issue is very disappointing. The one virtue of this manufactured issue is that it is proving to be a telling litmus test for showing who will live their principles when the public debate gets heated.

Carol Rosenberg, a journalist for the Miami Herald and one of the few journalists who continue to follow operations and proceedings at the Guantanamo Bay prison reports “an emotionally ill detainee still being held at the U.S. detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, was first recommended for release by the Pentagon in 2004.”
