The original concept for banking was sound, and envisioned interest earned by lending out personal savings, which could even manage a certain percentage of failed loans. When those savings converted to the more daring, but also more dangerous, challenge of having it all now under a planned debt payment – the economy as a whole climbed out on a limb and handed the saw to every business that might grow greedy and raise its own share.

Did Harvard Quietly Divest from Israeli Companies – or Not? |
| By: EdwardTeller Monday August 16, 2010 1:00 am |
Over the years, I’ve sometimes seen a bumper sticker of t-shirt that says “Jesus Saves- Moses Invests.” Harvard Management Company, which handles the university’s investments dumped all its Israeli stock in the 2nd quarter of 2010. Neocon blogs all over the place are declaring war on them. Why? The companies were losing a lot of money.

The “DREAM Now Series: Letters to Barack Obama” is a social media campaign that launched Monday, July 19, to underscore the urgent need to pass the DREAM Act. The Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act, S. 729, would help tens of thousands of young people, American in all but paperwork, to earn legal status, provided they graduate from U.S. high schools, have good moral character, and complete either two years of college or military service. With broader comprehensive immigration reform stuck in partisan gridlock, the time is now for the White House and Congress to step up and pass the DREAM Act!
Dear Mr. President,
My name is David Cho and I’m undocumented.
I will be a senior studying International Economics and Korean at UCLA this upcoming Fall. While most of my friends will enter the workplace after graduation, I will not be able to even put my name down on a job application because of my status. I’m a hardworking student with a 3.6 GPA and I am the first Korean and actually the first undocumented student to ever become the conductor, the drum major of the UCLA Marching Band in UCLA history.

Somewhere between Yalie Sam Alito’s confirmation in 2006 and Harvard Dean and Solicitor General Elena Kagan’s nomination in 2010, an Ivy League degree went from a credential to a liability. Now with Kagan set to be confirmed, there has been the odd objection that too many Ivy Leaguers will be on the high court.
The Kagan Confirmation: A Dress Rehearsal for the GOP’s “Elitism” Spin Machine |

From all corners of the conservative media (and from a few on the left), the “elitism” drumbeat will thunder down on Elena Kagan, trying to convince us that having spent time at some of the top academic institutions in the land somehow disqualifies her from performing what is the most academically rigorous job in our government.
