The Kerry-Graham-Lieberman bill was likely the last hope for major climate-change legislation for a number of years. With Obama on the defensive and unwilling to spend political capital on the issue, and with Congress certainly getting more Republican in November, a great window of opportunity has been missed.

Senators In Gangland |

Not much comes out of value comes from gangs. Oh sure there are some rap artists who started as gang members and I am not going to minimize the art that they have created, but really they are the exception not the rule. Gangs in history and in contemporary America are generally associated with criminal activity.
Given this basic premise it is hard to understand why a long time United States Senator would want to form a gang, but Sen. Lieberman really has a bit of a chubby for them. It was eons ago in blog time, 2005, but there was a show down between Democrats and Republicans over judicial nominees. The Dems where holding up 11 applet court nominees and the Republicans were talking about the “nuclear option” of ending the filibuster.

Joe Lieberman Makes Argument for More Progressive Income and Estate Taxes |
| By: Scarecrow Monday September 13, 2010 8:39 am |
Ever the unprincipled opportunist, Joe Lieberman announces he’ll obstruct the growing consensus and demand we give income and estate tax breaks to the richest Americans, even though it will make the economy worse.
“Misrepresentations in the Cybersphere,” or, Why Congress Shouldn’t Touch the Internet |
| By: Michael Whitney Sunday June 27, 2010 10:57 am |
Joe Lieberman’s Senate Homeland Security committee passed this week a “cybersecurity” bill that would expand the President’s powers and control of the Internet in a national emergency. In addition to Lieberman, the bill’s sponsors include Senators Tom Carper (D-DE) and Susan Collins (R-ME). But it was Collins’ defense of the bill that should send shivers up the spines of anyone who cares about the Internet.
Leeches: Nelson, Lieiberman Help Republicans Retard Economy, Increase Jobless |
| By: Scarecrow Friday June 18, 2010 6:44 am |
The Senate once again came up short trying to overcome a Republican filibuster of a jobs and state budget relief bill. And once again this insane obstruction was aided and abetted by Ben (Bad) Nelson, Joe Lieberman and Maine’s Senators Snowe and Collins, who continue to be misidentified as “moderates.”
Still At Risk: A Warning to Military Servicemembers (UPDATED with SecDef Gates’ Video) |
| By: Teddy Partridge Friday May 28, 2010 4:51 pm |
Amidst all the hoopla heading into Memorial Day weekend over the ‘repeal’ of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network very wisely posted a warning to all members of all service branches: nothing has changed. As a public service, I am re-posting SLDN’s warning here.

Well, this was a refreshing bit of candor at the end of the New York Times’ article on the House action Thursday evening to ‘repeal’ DADT.

The Senate Armed Services Committee, after a closed door session this evening, voted 16-12 for the Lieberman/Levin DADT ‘repeal’ that the full House will vote on tonight or Friday morning.
Aravosis: “Who Died and Made CAP Queen?” |

This is disturbing. Center for American Progress is not only taking credit for what I call the sham ‘repeal’ compromise, they are also crowing about circulating the legislative language two months ago on Capitol Hill — while our primary LGBT national organizations on repeal were still fighting to end discharges right now under a full repeal.
