Attorney General Holder’s promise to escalate enforcement of the marijuana laws if Proposition 19 passes is leading the country in the wrong direction. The marijuana laws will have no legitimacy if a majority of Californians vote to legalize marijuana. The U.S. needs law enforcement leadership toward a sensible marijuana policy, not more of the failed marijuana policy.

Translated LA Times: Today LA Sheriffs seized $234,000 worth of harmless products from small businesses in a move certain to harm their businesses, increase unemployment and withdraw money and trade from a lagging economy.

Charlie Brown, Denver City Councilman Brown currently chairs the Council’s Medical Marijuana Committee and is a member of the Government Affairs & Finance Committee and the Business, Workforce, & Sustainability Committee. He was the key sponsor of the city’s new medical marijuana ordinance that regulates this new form of controversial commerce. The ordinance was approved by Council 13-0 on January 11, 2010.

Criminal laws against marijuana are a bankrupt, failed approach that does more harm than good. Polls in California and nationally show the people get it. But, the politicians do not. They keep urging more marijuana enforcement. The experts get it and have been telling the politicians for years — end marijuana prohibition. Now it is time for the people to send a clear message by voting Yes on California’s Proposition 19.
