Interview with Medea Benjamin, co-founder of CODE PINK and “fair trade” advocacy organization Global Exchange, at the “One Nation Working Together” rally at the Lincoln Memorial on October 2nd.

This rally provided group therapy for community organizers and Obama supporters looking for a way to reaffirm their dedication to hope and change. It was not only a chance to unify around the need for jobs, education, environmental protections and clean energy, immigrant rights, college affordability, etc. but also a chance to reclaim history…

As a species, the right wing has separated itself off from humanity, and declared itself above law, above rational support for the principles that made this nation safe from authoritarian rule, and most especially above decent treatment of all people. Under that species’ dominion, the law of the jungle is supreme, and charity itself becomes a crime.

One month before the midterm elections, hundreds of organizations–many of them major organizations the Democratic Party needs to help them get-out-the-vote (GOTV) for November–will send a message to Democrats: No matter how much you beat upon the base for raising its voice and offering healthy criticism, progressives will still vote for you.

New York Green Party gubernatorial candidate Howie Hawkins put out a release Sept. 28th that covered the NY governor’s race and his Green New Deal proposal as well as the Middle East resource wars, the FBI raids on peace activists, and the One Nation Working Together rally.

Shuttered U.S. factories and off-shored manufacturing are sapping American strength. Late in April, 58 percent of 1,000 likely voters told pollsters they believed America’s economy no longer led the world. They also said they supported enacting a national manufacturing policy to promote resurgence of domestic production — a return to the days of a robust Rosie the Riveter and a country that could secure its independence with dynamic manufacturing capability. Rosie said, “We Can Do It.” Americans believe we can still do it.
