As of 4:35 Friday I still can’t find any National Crowd estimates I looked at Google News, Koz, HuffPost, FiveThirtyeight, FDL, even Dave at Crooks and Liars doesn’t have an article yet on the size of the Tea Bagger protest and this is Tax Day their biggest Hate Holiday.

Building peace means reaching out to the other side and trying to find common ground even with those people whose beliefs contradict so many of our own. If the Tea Party is really against runaway government spending, then certainly we can work together to cut a slice out of the military pork that is bankrupting our nation.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has laid out a strategy to pass health care reform in the next couple of days by allowing the House to vote on the details of the reconciliation package instead of the Senate bill itself. As usual, progressives are fretting that winning will make them look bad. On the other hand, conservatives are baying for blood and calling for revolution.

Allowing the 9/11 suspects to be tried through military commissions is unacceptable. The proper venue is still the federal courts.

Brief note to suggest watching some if not all of the C-SPAN coverage of the Tea Party convention.

The Tea Party Patriots have been polling their members asking them to rate various policy positions they’d like the party to emphasize in a “Contract from America.” The winners are: repeal the 20th century and return to the good old days of robber barons.

Could the culture war itself, rather than the incessant debating of issues within that war, be the real reason our electoral system – and thereby our government – sucks?
