Building progressive power means building progressive community |
| By: Jason Rosenbaum Tuesday June 29, 2010 11:00 am |
There are many great reasons to donate $10 or $15 to Firedoglake to help us reach out goal of $50,000 small-dollar contributions by Wednesday. Click here to chip in.
Marcy Wheeler has written about the power of inflection points. David Dayen has talked about FDL’s growing power in the news and information universe. And Jane has laid down the marker, pointing out that at the end of the day, without independent funding sources you can’t have a strong independent progressive movement. As a founder of The Seminal, where I’m proud to serve up a unique mix of quality political thought by regular authors and diarists members alike, I’d like to talk about community.
At its heart, I believe the power of the progressive movement to change the direction of this country rests on how well we can connect people together.

I was going through the footage released Thursday at the UN by culturesofresistance.org, taking screen shots of important events, when I noticed a series of what sound like 9mm shots, minutes after the vessel had capitulated.
Calling All Afghanistan Bloggers – We Need a New Blog Fellow! |
| By: Derrick Crowe Wednesday January 13, 2010 7:55 am |
As you may know, I’ve been the Brave New Foundation / The Seminal Afghanistan blog fellow for the past several months. I’ve been absolutely thrilled to have a chance to get paid to write about this issue. But like all good things, this fellowship has an end, and luckily the end of this fellowship has been triggered by a similarly exciting opportunity: I’ve just taken a position with Brave New Foundation as a political associate to work full-time on the Rethink Afghanistan campaign.

Howdy folks, some of you may know me from hanging around FDL for a while under the name finifinito. Some may remember me as Donita Sparks’ technician for her The Spin I’m In weekly columns on FDL from July of 2006 until last summer. Others may know me from DailyKos, Blue Indiana, The Roots Project, the 2008 Dodd Squad or from other places online.
Nonviolence, Foreign Policy, and the Progressive Movement |
| By: Derrick Crowe Friday July 17, 2009 9:00 am |
Hello, people!
I’m really happy to be a new addition to the crew at The Seminal. As you’ll quickly find out, I am obsessed with nonviolence and with U.S. foreign policy–two great tastes that taste weird together. Right now I’m focused on the Afghanistan war and related issues. When I’m not writing for The Seminal, you can usually find me hammering away at Return Good for Evil, where I write about current events from the perspective of Christian nonviolence.
