Republicans Don’t Trust Americans

By: Leo W. Gerard Friday October 15, 2010 9:32 am

Private Republican campaign fund-raising groups are concealing their donors from the public because the GOP does not trust American voters to handle the information. Republican operatives want to shield voters from knowing who is actually paying for GOP attack ads. The GOP fears the consequences if Americans know the truth – exactly which giant corporations and Wall Street banksters are funding vicious screeds against Democrats because those covert donors believe Republicans will deliver for big business.

Assert Yourself, America; Don’t be an Illegal Trade Victim

By: Leo W. Gerard Friday September 10, 2010 7:56 am

How is it that America finds herself in the position of schoolyard patsy, woe-is-me victim of China’s illegal trade practices that are destroying U.S. renewable energy manufacturing and foreclosing an energy-independent future? Come on, America. Stand up for yourself. Tell China that America isn’t going to hand over its lunch money anymore; international trade law will be enforced now. That’s the demand the United Steelworkers union made this week when it filed suit detailing how China violates a wide variety of World Trade Organization obligations.

America’s Choice: Leave a Legacy of Hell or Bequeath Clean Air

By: Leo W. Gerard Wednesday September 1, 2010 4:30 pm

These days, good-paying industrial jobs need not exact untimely deaths from pollution. In fact, development of clean renewable energy generators – the likes of wind turbines, solar cells, biomass – would create and support good industrial jobs in America. Blue collar union workers and green collar environmentalists are pressing lawmakers to pass comprehensive climate change legislation. The BlueGreens told audiences in August the choice for lawmakers is leaving a legacy of environmental hell or bequeathing climate unchanged.

What’s Green, White and Blue? American Jobs

By: Leo W. Gerard Tuesday August 10, 2010 9:13 am

Two Chinese companies have agreed to manufacture in America, instead of in China, a significant portion of the wind turbines needed for a Texas wind farm. The deal is a result of white collar Chinese executives negotiating with blue collar union officers to create green collar jobs in the U.S. The agreement defies stereotypes about unions as constantly combative, excessively expensive and environmentally challenged. The United Steelworkers union, which struck the deal, has a track record of engaging with enlightened CEOs for mutual benefit. It has a long green history. And it has worked to return off-shored jobs to the U.S.

For the Strength of Rosie the Riveter: Make It in America

By: Leo W. Gerard Wednesday July 28, 2010 8:23 am

Shuttered U.S. factories and off-shored manufacturing are sapping American strength. Late in April, 58 percent of 1,000 likely voters told pollsters they believed America’s economy no longer led the world. They also said they supported enacting a national manufacturing policy to promote resurgence of domestic production — a return to the days of a robust Rosie the Riveter and a country that could secure its independence with dynamic manufacturing capability. Rosie said, “We Can Do It.” Americans believe we can still do it.

Q&A with Veteran Labor Organizer Stewart J. Acuff

By: Leo W. Gerard Tuesday July 6, 2010 12:44 pm

Stewart Acuff, chief of staff for the Utility Workers Union of America, says in his new book, “Getting America Back to Work,” that increasing employment requires reinvesting in America and its workers. That would mean the banksters and other financial elites get less of the wealth generated by the economy and workers get more. To take wealth from the richest people in the history of the world requires power, he says in this interview.

U.S. Politicians Deny the Obvious Injury; U.S. Manufacturing Bleeds

By: Leo W. Gerard Thursday July 1, 2010 9:51 am

In the trade clash between China and America, the Asian giant has gravely wounded the United States. China knows it. U.S. voters of all political stripes know it. But too many American politicians are in denial. Their deliberate blindness, and resulting inaction, has enabled Chinese market intervention to continue killing American manufacturing.

American Wind Turbines Sound Like Freedom

By: Leo W. Gerard Friday June 18, 2010 8:05 pm

In America, wind turbines echo the almost melodic taunt of a schoolyard victor — Neh-neh-neh-neh-neh-neh: You can’t get me. That’s because American wind turbines are the manifestation of freedom from foreign oil. The more American wind turbines, the fewer barrels of oil America must import to meet its energy needs. And American-built wind turbines help propel the nation out of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression by generating good-paying American jobs.

Greed Explains the Disasters and the Lying Afterwards

By: Leo W. Gerard Monday June 14, 2010 12:42 pm

CEOs commonly make incongruous assertions to protect profits after corporate-caused disasters. They’re driven by the same factor that is fundamental to the catastrophes – greed. Nothing wrong with that, right? Not in a society that has converted greed from a vice to a virtue. Still, American church-goers might recall that greed is one of the seven deadly sins. When it afflicts CEOs, it’s deadly to workers.

GOP Wants a Country by Corporations for Corporations

By: Leo W. Gerard Thursday May 27, 2010 10:54 am
(Promoted by somethingthedogsaid - This might seem a little obvious to regular Seminal readers, but it is a point that needs to be hammered with independents and low information voters. )

Republican senatorial candidate Rand Paul simply said with Republicans believe – that this country should focus on promoting corporations and those corporations should have privileges but not responsibilities. The Republican policy, apparently, is “Mine Baby Mine” and “Drill Baby Drill;” taxpayers will forgive “accidental” worker deaths and pay to clean “accidental” spills.
