Human Rights Campaign, after a one-man effort by San Francisco LGBT activist Michael Petrelis, has finally agreed to post its IRS Form 990 on its website, “by the end of this week.” The form was due to the IRS in mid-August, so the HRC’s secrecy and delay makes it look like they’ve something to hide. Could it be huge salary increases while accomplishing nothing but kicking the gay-rights can down the road and providing cover to the Democratic White House and Congress for their bumbling of LGBT issues?

Matt Bai claims that his version of the trouble with Social Security comes from a non-partisan organization. I don’t think Peter G. Peterson qualifies, and neither do groups he funds.

While listening last night to President Obama’s speech on the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, one section struck me as both especially sad and enraging. Obama was borrowing the language and ideas of Van Jones to describe the path out of our dependence on fossil fuels. This was enraging, because when Van Jones was attacked by Glenn Beck, Obama stood idly and allowed Jones to resign. It was even more enraging, and sad, because resorting to Jones’ plan in the speech demonstrates how correct Jones is in his prescription for a Green Collar Economy.

Conservation groups take huge donations from Big Coal, Big Oil and other corporations that make enormous profits while destroying the environment and the planet’s ecosystem. It’s time to expose this corrupt relationship and chart a new course to save the planet.

The Obama Administration recently removed protection for the desert nesting bald eagle. In a move reminiscent of the previous administration, it ignored the advice of its own scientists.

Mom is 91. She listens to Thom Hartmann (who wished her a happy 90th) every day, and is a wonderful, wise, liberal Christian.
Last summer, during the period between Palin’s abdication speech and the end of her term, mom asked me to pass on to my Alaska blogging friends, “You tell them thanks for chasing her down here, so she can destroy the Republican Party for the next 20 years.”
Well, in the wake of TeabaggerFest 2010, we may or may not be seeing some evidence of mom’s vision:

Rahm Emanuel has apologized to Tim Shriver, CEO of the Special Olympics for calling liberal Democrats “fucking retarded,” but hasn’t apologized to the veal pen. The Palinbots are claiming credit for the victory.

Despite Bart Stupak’s July letter announcing his intent to submit an amendment to health care reform further restricting American women’s reproductive rights, Village insider Ellen Malcolm waited until TODAY to sound the alarm, while list-building and fundraising on a purported petition to Harry Reid to “Stop Stupak.”
